How heavy a bullet do you think 22WMR can get to 1000fps

I know old sihlouette shooters used to pull the bullet and stuff in a sierra 50gr.
But I am really wondering for a suppressed vermin rifle how much extra thump a fellow could get? 9 twist 224 barrels are common as stinkbugs. A 65gr hardcast might really shine? thoughts?
My intended specs, cheap marlin bolt gun, single fed.
Have lathe and a 22wmr reamer so most of this would be virually free. Could probly even make a single cavity bullet mold.

Federal 50 grain is rated at 1500 fps. IF you are wanting to play, I would try the Hornady 55SX with reduced charge, and wear your safety glasses. Or you could buy the WW 45 grain subsonic 22wmr ammo. The Aguila 60 grain sss is 950 from a .22lr. Just a thought, unless you just want to play, a .22H is the answer to your question.

If anyone is feeling generous with there quickload time. I pulled a bullet from an unfired Win case and had 5.6gr water capacity. .241 diameter, its straightwall. and 1.050 length. the rim is .050 i did not measure the inside depth. Assuming 1 caliber deep on seating and the same max 24,000psi max
And yes @moorepower Im just wanting to play.
I put myself together a custom 22wmr and now Ive got all kinds of interest in what can be done with one if youve more freetime than sense!
Also a rimfire action is well cheaper than a hornet and since they can get 60gr to 950 on a 22 short case I think the WMR might get the 80gr to 1k fps with no need for more boiler room.
Maybe?

If I were to want more than the 22 mag can deliver the 22TCM would be where I would look. I am interested in seeing how your 22 mag reloads will work. Ever think of a barnes 22, they are long and high BC but lighter than a lead bullet?

Well Dan the Bullet Man seems to make a 65gr and 70 gr gas checked 224 bullet. Now if i can find some for sale I will be halfway there!

Have you considered using a Savage 25, and going with a Hornet? In a 9-twist, it might be able to run the 69 SMK, and if not that, then the 65 GameKing, or similar hardcast bullet.

Brass life, at those speeds, would be about forever, and no bullet pulling, etc. required.

Here is the email for Dan.

I sent him an email, he replied that he was not certain that the 9 twist would stabilize his 70gr at sub speed recomended his 62gr.
NOW THE FUN PART, he said they had also worked a subsonic load for the 22 CCM which is near identical in capacity to the WRM but he said they used a much lighter bullet in a 14 twist. But it is sure looking promising for a rifle that may very well only appeal to me!!!!

Very interesting, keep us posted with your project . I am interested in the whole process, never have I messed with the 22 WRM . Pics would be great if at all possible .I am wondering how you pull the factory bullet and seat the new one ? I have a 22 WRM,my max clear shot here is 40 yards...a heavy bullet and quiet round sounds cool.

Well quickload says Lil gun can get a 70gr speer to 1300fps at 23k psi. This was with a coal of 1.350
at 1060fps is a 82% fill. Were a couple other options with better fill at 1060fps. Gotta factor in pressure at the muzzle for max quiet!
Its looking like as far as subsonic is concerned the ole 22wmr might be as big as needed!

Very cool, following with interest. The more I shoot my mag the more I like that little cartridge.

I think I could have lived with the 60gr 22 stuff but the bullet just isnt up to my intended uses. The Mag using reg 224 stuff just opens the whole world up. I pull the pullets using 2 pair of pliers and so far has worked just fine.
I plan on making a "resize" die for the chance I mess up a case. Just gonna bore a .238 hole into a piece of 7/8-14 allthread. Havent got a perfected plan on a shell holder, but there is a company that makes and sells reload dies for 22 and 22mag!!
I also plan to re do some with a 33gr hornet bullet for my reg mag rifle. gonna dump the powder from 20rd wiegh each one then probly load as many as possible at whatever the high end of the charge varience is. Ive read online guys have done this and found near half grain varience in a box, thats alot on a 5 gr charge!

Wow, I never knew folks were experimenting with this . I was curious about how you were pulling them without damage, and about re-seating them .Thanks for sharing,I will be very interested in what you find once you play with powder charges .Is their a site on the web dedicated to the 22 mag ?

Wow, I had no idea this equipment was out there.I just gave it a quick look ,need to spend some time there . When I got the Anschutz 22 mag i had in mind that I could use it for pest control but forgot it had quite a "crack" to it compared to my 22 LRs . Any vermin i shoot are within 50 yards, beyond that it's too thick to see. My thoughts were slower and heavier, but they do not sell it that I am aware of . I did try some "self defense" ammo designed for revolvers,it was pretty mellow and very accurate .

Thanks again for all the info.
