Though Fla. isn't really considered Dixie anymore, I know there are a few natives who bear the brunt of the invasion of Yankees, who care nothing about the way of life there. Just want to make it NJ with gators. Got the same thing in NC, we love your BBQ but hate your church going, Sunday go to meetin' attitude. hey! another great thing about living in the "Sunshine", but really is, the partly cloudy, mostly cloudy, rains all the time, tropical storms, hurricanes State!!
in addition to all our other invasive species (Boas, Iguanas, white flies, Lionfish, curly tailed lizards, New Yorkers, French Canadians, etc, etc), we get our twice yearly LoveBug infestations!! yea!
shot at my club in east central sh.thole state last week. LoveBugs so thick had trouble seeing the target. carcasses all over the ground and the benches. and for a bonus, i just got to clean pieces of the sweet little creatures out of the chambers of two of my rifles! got 20 fps more MV out of the loads with their acidic bodies acting as extra fuel!
to add more to the fun after i got home, spent 45 minutes with pressure cleaner on the vehicle to ensure that not another paint job got ruined by my little friends.
can't wait to get out of this state. been here in S.Florida since 1985. enough is enough

Just spend a couple weeks on vacation in Kalifornia, Oregon, or Washington. You'll quickly realize how good you actually have it now.

Yes explain.. More than likely politics and the people in the government offices. Many of the folks in the small towns and rural area are great, and the scenery is pretty darn good in those states. Some fine shooting areas also.

Have always lived in the southeast - South Alabama/Florida Panhandle. One year in August (1980's) when the daily temps were 99 - 103 with humidity near 100% I walked into the barn (I trained cutting horses) and heard Paul Harvey talking about the heat wave in the deep south and that Eureka CA had a heat wave also, it got up to 75 the day before! Then "The rest of the Story": year round temps there were usually a low of around 50 and a high of 65. I thought there must be something wrong with the place as we don't all live there! (This was before CA had acquired such a bad reputation) Took me several years, but finally met someone from there. I told her about what Paul Harvey had said and she said that sounded about right. She said it is a good place to live if you don't need to see the sun more than occasionally as there is fog most of the time.
Moral: There is no "Perfect Place" to live. Every place has its downside. If you don't like where you live, move or just decide to "Grin and bear it".

I was not born in Florida but I have lived here since 1957. This place was nice in the 50s and 60s. You could go fish in the canal of your choice and possibly not see another living person the whole time. I moved to the sticks (still in Florida) and it was nice. Now a jet most likely taking people to New York or New Jersey flies over my house every 15 minutes starting at 5:15 in the morning. Some time between Thanks giving and Christmas every horse owner that lives above the Mason-Dixon line that doesn't know how to drive moves into my neighborhood and stays till after Easter. The traffic used to be bad in the winter now its bad all the time. I used to try to drive with care on I95. Now I have bumpers on my truck made from 2x8 steel tubing with 1/4 thick walls. So you can avoid that firey crash by staying out of my way. I do feel your pain with the heat, I used to deal with it pretty well, But I am in my 60s now and it is getting harder to live with it. The little city I was raised in was the safest place I could ever imagine (Lake Worth) now the gangs own it. Ms13 has a huge presents in the south end of Lake Worth. Florida was once a wonderful place.

I lived in Kalifornia for a number of years, and I've spent a fair amount of time in Florida. I would choose to live in Florida with the heat, the bugs, the hurricanes, and everything else, any day of the week and twice on Sundays, rather than live with the uber-liberal Nazis on the West Coast.
My point was merely that sometimes it takes a fresh perspective to realize that we might not have it all that bad where we are.
Rebel you are so wrong any part of Florida north of Orlando, except Jacksonville is the deep south. In the south anything west of 20 mile bend on FL80 is the deep south. Like go to Labelle, Immokalee, Arcadia, Zolfo Springs Those places don't have a lot of Elizabeth Warren campaign posters nailed up. Communities on the coast that is what you want to avoid.
Northern AZ, very few bugs, I just came in from enjoying the nice afternoon, bout 70 with slight breeze!

My property borders the Forest Service on 3 sides so at least I have some privacy.
My curse is I spend a lot of time burning invasive weeds so the Blue Grama grass can set in.
