22 Magnum on paper...Standard distance ?

I have not owned a 22 magnum in years and have a new interest since buying a nice little Anschutz . I am just curious ,do folks compete with the 22 magnum ? If so,at what distances and discipline ? I won't be competing,I just want to have something to compare my shooting with . Thanks for any help.

While the 22 magnum is an awesome hunting/plinking rifle I found that due to the lack of "dedicated" target ammo as a competition rifle its limited. I built a few of them and some I went "all out" and built some really fine rifles. The bad news is that on any given day my 22LR target rifle will out shoot it. Some have had better luck but for me its not the best choice for a target rifle when score counts. Now for going out and just shooting targets or steel plates at 100 - 200 yards its a great rifle and it will be fun. If your not going to compete just shoot it and enjoy!

Most rimfire competition I ever heard of specifies “waxed lead bullet” in the rules.
There used to be 1or2 outfits custom loading for it if that’s what blows your skirt up.

Thanks for that real world experience,I had a feeling the ammo situation would be a major factor . I have only shot out to 100 yards so far and groups hover at .75" without a good scope or rest . I was happy with that for a little Mannlicher stocked rig. I have a bunch of ammo to test, maybe I can find a real gem .

If you find a type it likes , buy as much as you can afford (same lot number )

That is my plan, going to give it a complete test and buy up what I can of top two favorites . So far at 100 yards the Remington 33 grain Accu-tips seem to be the most consistent . Tightest group was with some "Home Defense" revolver ammo I bought in error . I have to test that more, not sure if it was a fluke but it was 4 touching and one out of the group by a sliver of paper.

I love the lack of recoil ,makes it very enjoyable.
