Ladder results 6mmBR with 87gr V-max

Tried this same bullet with Varget and no results worth a damn. I swear I think my Varget must be defective because it would not work in my .308 either. Anyway till I can get my hands on some Sierra 107's to try I'm working with the 87gr V-max because I have about 700 of them from my 243 days.
Couple of ladders shot at 200yds using Benchmark and H4895. These are .002 off the lands in both tests. Looking for input, probably not so much the Benchmark. The H4895 is also awesome in my .308.

Wow
I like 6-7 on both targets truth be told I would have to lean benchmark 29.4 with a click of right;)
Addendum- I can hardly wait to see the seating test” that’s gonna be a shooter.

The Benchmark actually has less recoil and I could actually see the hole appear in the paper sometimes. The reason I said probably not so much with the Benchmark is it's really hard to find around me, or it sells out fast. I also have 8208XBR powder but it has a wider load spectrum and I couldn't figure where to start because I couldnt find any loads with it.

I agree with Jim.
I'd load #7 charge weight for bot powders and move to seating.
@pirate ammo will take care of your needs, he went out of his way to get me a FL bushing die cheaper than any online vendor.

I could never get the 87 Vmax and Varget to shoot in my 6BR either. Not having a large supply of bullets like you have, I switched to Berger 88gr Varmint, and it shoots great.

I suggest deeper than .002 into the lands. .007 to .010 may improve the groups. My velocities are in the 3140 range.

I bought a butt load of them when I was messing around with a .243 rifle. I like to work with what I can buy local like powder, primers and bullets to try to avoid the hazmat costs. Around me finding Berger target bullets is like finding a gold bar in your back yard. Hornady are pretty easy and the "good" Sierras are hit and miss, Berger... no way and Nosler bullets are really easy but I have issues making them work which is a real shame because they are consistent in weight and length and purdy to look at, but purdy dont score.
My seating dept test is currently being loaded and I actually did order some Sierra 107gr matchking's to play with.

I shot H4895 and 87 vmax in a wichita pistol. I soon discovered that the v max bullets I had needed to be sorted. I used the sinclair nut gizmo and this really improved the group sizes . I think your powder charge on the 4895 is a little on the low side. The Nosler manual I have shows 27.5 to 31.5 for the 80 gr.nosler bullet I also used cci br 4 primers. My best group with that pistol was 5 shot .210 @ 1oo yds with a 12 x leupold

Did you work up till pressure signs showed up? My experience with varget you will be 29.8 or higher with 105+ bullets...load 8208 start at 28grs and work up...Hodgen website has load data for 8208 in 6br

Personally I don’t like to do single shot ladder tests. From purely a vertical standpoint you have 2,4,6,7 and 8 at what looks like less then half inch at 200 on the benchmark test. I wonder if 1,3 and 5 are flukes due to bullets or neck tension. Similar can be said about the h4895 test. If number 2 is an inch higher 1 through 4 look like winners. Before I start going crazy with seating depth , neck tension and primer tests I like to make sure my intitial ladder test is a true representation of what to expect based off of multiple shots not just 1. Just my 2 cents.

I agree, it looks like another node was coming in at the top end so a higher power charge might be the answer. I'm currently working on the same powder with 105gr bullets and it goes higher up. I'm not too concerned about the 87gr V-max's because they are just fun rounds no more than 300yds and I have a bunch of them. Your right on the sorting of them, they are really bad. I found some as much as .006 difference,... the Nosler 105 RDF's were within .001.

Did you look close at the data for the 8208XBR? First off Hodgdon don't list a 87gr bullet, they have a 85gr and a 90gr and the difference in charge weights between the two bullets is a lot. Which do you use the 85 or the 90 for a 87gr bullet?

For safety use 90 gr load data. I am not sure experienced you are but I try to find heavy bolt lift seated at -.010” before I run ladder test, bc usually load data is on the conservative side to keep them out of lawsuits...once you find heavy lift load three up for each charge, doing a round robin to speak for each charge weight...if you start clean with first ladder then clean before second and third firing 2-3 foulers before each string...shoot alternating loads each round 1,2,3,4,5,6. 6,5,4,3,2,1. 3,2,4,6,1,5. Use a horizontal line with 3 different points of aim

I might play around with the 8208XBR since I have a couple of pounds of it. I have also gave away all my Varget to a friend that reloads, never had any luck with it in several rifles. Could it just be that lot of Varget?,... who knows and I don't care as its gone now. I did try playing around with the seating depth for the 87gr V-max's and was quite shocked, I tried .005 jam out to .025 off and .025 off was the best. Makes me wonder if it's looking for more off the lands?
I also tried some 105gr Nosler RDF's and those shot really well at .010 off the lands and at 29.0gr of H4895. I'm having a blast shooting the 6br round. Me and a buddy spent half a day shooting at broken fragments of orange sporting clay disks scattered on the berm at 200yds.
