IMR 8208 223 load

How does the temp stabilty of this powder stack up against the Hodgdon extreme line? Does anybody have a magic 223 load with the 50 gr vmax?

Awesome in my .22BR. Very temperature stable in my experience. As good as, or better than the Hodgedon Extreme powder line. I also gained a little extra velocity. A win, win in my book. :D:D

Very happy with 8208 in my 223 XP-100 with 53 V-Max’s and my 6ppc as well, started looking for something different for the Hall benchrest rifle when I ran out of N-133,8208 tightened up my groups and I like its stability as well.Pretty sure you will like it Tim.

XBR is one of the Hodgdon Extreme line products. Despite its name which Hodgdon apparently chose for marketing reasons to (unsuccessfully) latch onto surplus IMR 8208's popularity with short-range BR shooters, it is made by Thales / ADI in its Mulwala, New South Wales, Australia plant same as other members of the Hodgdon extruded 'family'.

Its Aussie name is AR Benchmark 8208

8208 XBR and Trail Boss are AFAIK the only misnamed ADI powders that should logically be in the Hodgdon range. (The Hodgdon Powder Co. owns the IMR name and marketing / distribution rights so can swap names around between the two ranges as it wishes.) Other IMR rifle grades including the new 'green' Enduron powders were developed by and are manufactured in Canada by the General Dynamics Energetics Ordnance and Tactical Systems division based in Valleyfield, Quebec.

Thanks for that info, Laurie, it potentially explains a few things. In my limited use of it, 8208XBR seemed very similar to Hodgdon Benchmark in both its loading properties and physical characteristics.

It is good stuff. Start at 24.0 grains and work your way up. Likely will achieve best accuracy near max, and with a mild primer. I like it under 52-55 grain bullets.

I also must note that it meters very well for an extruded powder, so works superbly for bulk loading.
