Mine broke tonite, should i just replace it or could the press be damaged?

Can you tell me how it happened. Looks like some serious scratches on it. Maybe some pictures of the fracture could shed a little more light on what happened. 45 years on my Rockchuker and still works like new. Received excellent customer service from RCBS over the years.

Seems like I bent one on my Rockchucker a few years back. Never did figure out how, just called RCBS and had a replacement on the way in nothing flat, AND, at NO CHARGE!!

Not seeing this first hand, but looking a the clean break in the pin, I would say it was over hardened in the manufacturing process.
I would contact RCBS as stated. All these companies are exceptional in their customer service.

could the press be damaged?

Doubt it, but when you go to install the new pin, it should slide smoothly through the holes. If it doens't, you might need to take some fine (like 600 grit) sandpaper and remove any burrs.

From my experience with RCBS, not with this type of broken part, but if you call them, they will have one the way too you, free of charge. May even ask you to send it in for them to check and repair, if you can not do it. But I would say replacing that broken pin will be not harder than taking it out as you did.

I broke that ram pin on my first Rockchucker I bought in '76. It was at least 20yrs old when it broke. RCBS sent one immediately free of charge. Not a better company on the planet than them. That's the reason that all but one powder measure and a handful of die sets I have are GREEN.

Interesting fracture. That was part of our job at work to analyze broken parts and to the best of our ability determine the root cause. Preconceived ideas could really cost us on some of our repairs.

i hear the sound of thousands of presses being disassembled right now for cleaning and lube... my three included.

thanks for the reminder!
