Results Manatee 600 yard IBS match 3-23-19

Results attached. The equipment list is NOW FULLY UP TO DATE. 16 shooters meant a full line. Weather was cooperative. Cool morning "for us" 45 degrees, but mid 70s at noon. Wind and mirage came on strong in Heavy Gun, but still many sub 2" groups shot.

This was the last IBS registered match for our second season running from Oct thru March. We will continue to hold IBS "club" matches. They will not be registered with the IBS. The format may change slightly but still be held on the 4th Saturday of each month thru September.

Our core bench rest shooters have been upping their game considerably. Congratulations to all.

Also, a special well earned thank you to the Manatee Match Committee. I have been unable to contribute much to their efforts this season due to health issues and they stepped up and made things happen.

Steve

More pictures.

I will look thru the 2018 - 2019 and try to tally the best overall shooter from our season. Maybe just most SOY points?

Sure nice to view Rod Schneider as top shooter. Winning literally nothing the whole shoot and being near the top in all categories was a pleasant surprise. To see his excitement at the award was priceless.

One of the most pleasant shoots I ever attended. Good job directing Steve. May you be able to continue to provide a way to make a memorable shooting experience for so many.

Nice shooting Gents,
Especially impressed with competitor #3 &4 performance and equipment list.

The equipment list is not correct. It takes me some times 3 to 4 hours to sort out what is really listed on the match registration forms. I will have it complete later in the week.

Yes bench #3 Alex Lynn is really coming on strong. Only his second season. Another Wheeler success story. He is only going to get better. Has the right attitude and the best equipment he can find. Good combination, no?

Judge nothing from that equipment list. Think it is radically wrong, at least for me and a few I know of.

I used Roy Hunter 108’s for that 297 LG.

Who was shooting Savage actions if not competitors 3&4 ?
It stated that the equipment list was not complete I get that but totally wrong??

Man, to not pick a fight, but don't any of you actually read what I said. Equipment list is "BOGUS" just trash left over from the last match. Please disregard. Mark N, I know was shooting a Savage Dasher built by Eric Bostrom. Do I actually have to erase what was on the equipment list in the raw file and copy to a new .pdf file and re-post? The correct equipment information will be posted here and on the IBS site when I get to it.;)

Only know of Mark on bench 11 that shot a Savage. May have been one other but can’t think who it might have been.

This issue is NOT important for this posting, only to IBS when officially figured and posted. Organizing and doing the paperwork is a very difficult task and a good reason to stop sponsoring IBS shoots. The computer skills required and work involved is really not appreciated by many shooters. It is not something I can do and finding people to do it is a bit difficult.

Manatee BR shooters are now dealing with that very issue to find someone that can do it for future shots. All misery and no reward. Not many are eager to sign up for that. I sure applaud those organizers of shoots that make such a sacrifice to keep so many shooting.

Thank you for your clarification,
I read it as (not complete) and found it refreshing and encouraging that non custom actions (Savage) were competitive

Understand now. There have been many Savage actions used in benchrest in our area. The one Mark uses is one I had Bostrom build maybe 10 years ago. It is a beauty and has been very competitive and winning lately. There are many others like it that Bostrom built over the years. They near all shoot good in the hands of a quality shooter.

Not good for "running" as the actions are a bit bulky to operate, triggers are not easy to lighten to a couple ounces but can be made usable. The actions work if you slow down your shooting speed.

This is Mark with that particular Savage on an earlier shoot. It not only looks super but sure can shoot. He used it in January to finish 2nd in the Florida Championship - second only to the great Bart Sauter.

Basically nothing wrong with a Savage target action. That's how I got stated. Yes, action is a bit hard to master to prevent the firing pin locking up when trigger is set light. Just run it slow and carefully and it will shoot small. At 50% or more less that a basic custom action they make a great rifle for most any purpose. I think there is an f-class team that uses them exclusively. My biggest concern is the trigger. Tried custom and trying to tune it myself with little success. I sold the 2 that I had Eric Bostrom build for me. They were winners then and they are still shooting great. Again, trigger, trigger, trigger. All else is good to go IMHO.

I will be sorting out the equipment list today and update the results here.
