Best AR10s?

Working up loads for new Shilen 308win
I understand Les Baer has discontinued building AR10s. Does anyone know where to find a gunsmith building AR10s in 6.5Creedmoor, that also promises 1/2MOA precision? I think Les was the only one.

DPMS builds a 6.5 in their AR10. At least I thought they did. I remember when I purchase my 260, they offered a 6.5 Creedmoor. Maybe it was a Grendel.

I'd recommend a small frame AR10. DPMS holds the rights to the small frame, called the Gen II. I don't think they currently offer the small frame AR10 in 6.5CM, but they'd never guarantee a 1/2 moa anyway. Look at F4 Defense or Adams Arms. They both have licensing agreements to manufacture small frame AR10's and offer them in 6.5 CM. The F4 Defense has some cool features that appeal to me personally. That said they are both available with some high end parts like Proof barrels and other custom pieces. Neither of them are cheap. Patriot Ordnance Factory (POF) also offers a small frame AR10 that is a piston operated rifle. I can't really speak to the POF's. Granted, none of these three are really custom gunsmiths, more like boutique manufacturers.

Not sure if accuracy is guaranteed or not, but GA Precision builds AR-10’s that will shoot. I have a GAP built on an Armalite lower that shoots lights out. I also have an old AR-10T that will hold 1/2 moa with hand loads as well.

Ga Precision has been building the best AR10 platforms for several years now, lots of experience. Pay attention to the Proof barrels length adjustment for the gas port location.

Regards.

Given this is a precision-oriented forum, more so than duty/military, you'll get very different recommendations here than other forums.

JP is probably the best choice bar none for precision. Their AR's are very well-developed and overall are treated as whole system instead on an AR-10 with a 6.5 barrel slapped on it.

GAP is not a bad choice either.

I myself have an AR-10 chambered in 6.5 CM. In my case it is a home build though. It was built on a budget but still shoots pretty darn good for a semi auto. In fact I use it as my 1000+ yard rifle with good results.

Build one yourself, and you’ll have the ultimate control. Not at all difficult, and you’ll know what you’ve got involved. Plenty of really good barrels on the market, as well as triggers, float tubes, upper configurations and buttstock choices as well. Myself and several of the guys on our team built up several to use in LR Team matches at Perry some years back, and they all gave sterling results.

I've got a DPMS LR260 that meets your accuracy requirements, but I had to work up a load for it. DPMS makes no guarantees but the LRs with handloads most of them shoot real well.

reap36,

I would opine that Les Baer's claims might have been based on 3-shot groups.

I have built several AR-10's, mostly in 308. My last one is a .260 Rem with a JP barrel. You will spend a LOT of time at the range testing before you shoot your first 1/2moa 5-shot group at 100yds. You will spend more before you shoot five consecutive groups that size.

Patriot Ordinance Factory.
I havent heard them claim any level of accuracy but can say they shoot great.
Super easy to clean, due to operating system.

My bone stock DPMS Gen 2 in 308 shot well under half MOA with Creedmore Lapua ammo first day. It was really quite shocking.

I have since built a Craddock Precision barreled Bartlein 243 1-8 upper. It shoots quite well for a gas gun. Not really any better than the bone stock DPMS upper surprisingly. That is not taking anything away from the Craddock Precision 243 barrel because that 308 thing is a hummer.

If you decide to build your own, it is a good idea to get a known good quality bolt along with your barrel... Several manufacturers offer a matched bolt/barrel combo that is already headspaced. You can't go wrong with a JP high-pressure bolt in this application. I will say that compared to AR-15's which pretty much anyone can screw together, AR-10's are more prone to tolerance stacking issues and reliability concerns. It is not insurmountable but just be aware.

I haven't gotten mine to shoot 0.5 MOA but I also haven't really made much effort to either. Literally the second load I tried in mine generated easy 0.7 MOA groups at 200 yards, so I just shoot the thing.

My friend has an AR-10 with a 20" Proof Research carbon barrel, and he put some serious time into load development with 168 Hybrids, Lapua brass, and Target. His is definitely capable of 0.5 MOA accuracy in a semi-consistent basis.

I don't think any manufacturer will offer a 0.5 MOA guarantee.

I ordered my barrel from Craddock.

I bought my G2 from Buds.

https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog...759/dpms+rflr-g2b24+gii+bull+20+1+762nato+24"

Then I called DPMS and ordereded all the parts for an upper except the barrel and the gas system which I got from Craddock with the barrel. So, basically just the upper receiver and the tube.

I added a Magpul PRS stock and a two stage trigger. All in all it was a pretty cheap build. I mean you could just use the upper that comes with it and sell the barrel, but I just made another upper.

I love my Gen 2. I have an Armalite SASS that sells for $3000 and my DPMS will smoke it.
