I agree... If you want it to work smoothly, you'll need to pay a gunsmith.

I'm not worried about it with my R700. It functions and shoots good. A little harder bolt closing don't bother me with a factory 700 tactical action.

I recently purchased a new factory gun because it was on sale so figured why not.. got it home, and the chamber is tight... factory rounds do chamber but they chamber like my neck size only rounds normally chamber? I am a little unsure what to think about this... i mean do i just roll with it? i mean they do chamber.. if i full size other once fired brass i have for this round they do chamber but tight as well... ? will the bolt wear in? .. any thoughts would be great..

Have you tested with a stripped bolt to see how things feel ? Sorry if I missed that in the thread.

Shoot the dang thing . It could be a fantastic shooter . If it isn't AND it's still tight when using DIFFERENT brand of ammo , have a smith look at it .

ok, so it is a remington 700 adl 22-250....i plan on using it for some woodchuck hunting and a little target shooting.. and eventually rebarreling it pb to a 22-250 AI..... i do know that when its chambering a round the shoulder is bottoming out in the chamber, and thats why its hard to get closed with round in chamber... dummy me i forgot all about having a buddies go gauge in 22-250 here so this morning i threw it in... it does close.. but tight.....so at this point i dont think there is a point to get it back to remington bc they will say its good... i might call the local smith this moring and just see what he would charge to just check it out maybe...

Tight , without removing ejector and extractor is OK . Just shoot it then look at primers , if not pierced or severely extruded and your primary extraction is good , consider your self lucky .

Yeah that’s my thought on Remington 700 rifles. I’m a Remington 700 guy always have been but the quality has been lacking recently. I had to send a 700 RR serial number to LRI to have the primary extraction fixed, but the rifle is shooting sub 1/2 moa with 200 rds on the factory barrel. So can’t complain too much.

The way I figure if they can’t send it out right I’m not wasting my time and sending it back, I’ll send it to a riflesmith that will fix it right. I’m now building off custom actions but do have new and old R700 rifles that shoot great just need some tuning when new.

My .308 SPS Varmint, I found, would close on the nogo gauge. A touch stiff, but it would close. I didn't find this out until after I ordered a Remage barrel from PacNor.

I plan on shooting it today after work if it’s not too dark out...

you stated in an earlier post that the bolt closed hard with a empty chamber
do that and using a feeler gauge, check the clearance between the front of the bolt handle and the cutout
for the handle on the action.
there should be between 5 and 10 thousands clearance at this point.
if you have zero clearance at this point your bolt handle is probably soldered on the bolt body in the wrong position.
typical Remington problem altho usually the are too far in the other direction.[ too much clearance and no primary extraction]

I would say it’s equal spacing in front and back of bolt handle... my local Smith ( over the phone) is guessing an ejector pressure issue?.?.? ... I am going to try to bring it to him to look at in the next couple days if I can find the time... apparently they are known for putting too much pressure on case and causing something like this... apparently the wear on case head is a sign of this... said normally they just send them out and have them converted to an m16 extractor ? Idk I guess I will know more once he checks it out ... and I still plan on shooting it once I get a chance ...

so all things aside, question on 700 actions.. one thing i hate dearly is when out whoodchuck hunting, chasing brass down... so question is.. could i just pull the ejector out and not have it ( throw it across the room) ?... i mean would it just stay put in the reciever?

removing the ejector is common with benchrest shooters, some just leave them out. others take them out and plug the hole
I personally don't see the need to plug the hole, my two target rifles don't have ejectors
don't get suckered into replacing the Remington extractor, not a thing wrong with it

I like to make a solid ejector out of brass rod- cross pin and all. and turn it flush with the bolt face. That way you can go back someday if you like

I have 595s, 695s and T3s and they’re all that smooth.

alright up date time,... i decided to pull the ejector... it does close easier... still a tight chamber... but better..... and i am not chasing brass... range report... i had a box of factory hornady ammo.... shot twice at 50.. than a couple at 100 to finish zero... than shot a 10 shot 3/4'' group in bullseye .... so as long as my handloads can do that good ill be a happy camper...
