I had the same problem the first few times I used mine then the problem went away. I think with use the end of the pins round off a bit. I would suggest filling with water and running with no cases for 10 or 15 hours then try it again.

Do you really think that cases colliding with the tiny pins, floating in water, is what causes 'peening', rather than cases colliding with other cases?

I'm using approximately the same number of cases, same amount of water, and same pins. Tumbling time on the pins is the only thing that has changed.

When I first started with pins not only were the case mouths peened but the hole case had a mat dull look. Now the cases come out looking like they have been in walnut shells. Smooth on the out side and no peening on the mouth.

I also noticed when the pins were new the water would have silver look when it was stirred it after tumbling. I no longer see that now that I have more time on the pins.

That's the information I used to come to my conclusion

Ok, now let's throw a screw in the works...what about an ultrasonic cleaner? Better, worse, easier???
