New Gun Tight chamber

I recently purchased a new factory gun because it was on sale so figured why not.. got it home, and the chamber is tight... factory rounds do chamber but they chamber like my neck size only rounds normally chamber? I am a little unsure what to think about this... i mean do i just roll with it? i mean they do chamber.. if i full size other once fired brass i have for this round they do chamber but tight as well... ? will the bolt wear in? .. any thoughts would be great..

Different barrels- different brass. Using your other big chamber brass in the new small chamber shouldnt even be considered. Unless the same guy used the same reamer and you have a correctly fitted fl die dont even do it. Its just not worth the hassle

Id bet its on the large size of the spec and your chamber is on the tight side. I have seen some factory ammo too big but not usually. If youre going to shoot factory ammo id invest in a wilson case gage for your caliber and try the ammo in it. If it doesnt fit its out of spec. If you were to send it back to the mfr they will check it this way

First thing I would do is clean and scrub the chamber, neck & throat, and the barrel. Dry the chamber, lube the lugs and sharpie the case black to see where you are tight at.

maybe a dumb question... but what kind of contact should i have on both lugs when nothing in chamber?... how about when something is in chamber?

at this point i am fairly certain its not the chamber but the action.. i think the lugs in the action have an issue.. it seems to only want to ride in one spot.. until a round goes in than i think the force makes it touch the other lug... also it takes some force to close the bolt empty.. it like has to step forward... a buddy of mine said it shouldnt need to do it that much maybe a hair.. but not that much... ?... so i guess im going to be calling remington tomorrow...:(.... i think im going to try to get them to just mail out a new gun.... and i will send this one back... .. should be fun..... this is my first remington... ive stuck with savages and brownings till now... and maybe i should have stayed ...

They won’t ship a new gun, even if they did it would have to be processed thru an ffl if it was a replacement.

What cartridge is it? Sorry if I over looked it.

If it were me I would call a couple of local gunsmiths and see if they have go and no- go gauges in your rifles caliber. Then go visit. You may just have a minimum chamber which is not always a bad thing. You didn't mention what the rifle would be used for. dedogs

I have a Rem700 sps tac 20" in 223 and it's the same thing as yours.

No matter how far you size the brass, it feels tight to close the bolt.

I think the bolt lugs are tight against the abutments, because i feel a bit of scraping when closing the bolt on a empty chamber.

No matter if it's factory ammo or handloads regardless how far the bullets are seated away from the lands, it feels the same tightness when closing the bolt.

Go and No-Go gauges pass their tests. So it's nothing to do with Headspace.
