Xp 100 6br

zhsd7kG.jpg

I found one of these in a pawn shop yesterday.

In 6br

A 100 rounds of brass, and loaded ammo came with, In yellow and green Remington boxes labeled 6 br Remington?

Will Lapua 6br Norma work in it?

All the threads on here are consistent in that they argue long and hard, some saying yes, some saying no.

Hate to start another, but wonder if there's been a consensus reached?

I have one of those pistols, and it's the only factory made gun I own. I shoot the exact brass you mentioned in mine without issue.

Congrats on a very nice XP. Those old orange and green boxes are collectors so you may want to keep them intact. There are a few things you need to check before buying Lapua brass. First of all that old 6BR or BR brass is pretty good stuff if you want to use it. A neck turn of .002" and a primer pocket uniform would be advised to get the brass in order. You should measure chamber length with a Sinclair chamber length guage. If you have fired cases measure headspace so you'll have an idea how to set dies. After checking these measurements you shouldn't have any trouble adjusting Lapua Norma brass for your chamber.

That could mean it's .040" longer chamber. Use chamber length guage and measure.

The Custom Shop (Now at Dakota Arms) built me 6mmBR Norma rifle two years ago. They did the test target with 6mmBR Remington ammo they had. Worked fine. What wouldn't have worked is if they had chambered it with their Old Standard 6mmBR Remington Reamer and I tired to put 6mmBR Brass with 90 grain or heavier projectiles in the brass. Although I have read about supposed minor base differences between the two, my experience is only that it is in the freebore you have allowing the heavier and longer projectiles.

Although I'm an active shooter and like varmint hunting, I never seem to get around to doing much of it.
Having said that, I always liked the XP-100, I even like its looks although I would guess that some find that strange. A gun way ahead of its time.

Whats going on with that warning about different chambers?

Unfortunately I there's about 3 years worth of reading on the subject here on this forum.

Synopsis as far as I can tell :

6mm BR Remington is the old original brass and chambers.

The new standardized brass and chambers are the Lapua 6mm br Norma.

You could use a rem in the lapua, but would be a little difficult to chamber the lapua brass in a rem chamber.

I don't want to stick a reamer in a pristine factory original xp, so I'm just looking around for the old brsss, and ammo.

Clear as mud,?

I know the delimma all to well. Theres a lot of denyers on here though. Butch lambert has a bunch of that basic br brass if you need any.

Seems like the "Remington" (original) 6 BR chamber is shorter than the newer Lapua. Remington ammo will fit and fire in the longer (newer) Lapua chamber but NOT the other way around. More mud to digest.
