Best load Model 788 22-250

I have a Remington Mod 788 in 22-250. What is your pet load for this rifle?

I had 2 of em.[788's] H380 and 52 Sierra match. Had. I got rid of em[regrettably]

Why did you go with the MK instead of a standard predator bullet?

52 or 53 match bullet and 40 gr. 760 Win. H414 Hodgdon or Accurate 2700 all the same powder I never had any good groups with H380 or IMR 4064 like alot of guys swear by.

I have loaded everything in my 22-250’s and right back to 3031’ which coincidently is the factory test tunnel combo.
33-33.5 gr behind a Sierra 55 btsp is tough to beatfor hunting.
My 40x with the H2 bbl will shoot those in the .3’s @ 3815fps.

Back when they were 169.00 new. We always shot 55 gr sp, would believe better bullets and powder now should give you more options.

I use em for what ever I want. They flat decimate varmints.. And they are accurate.. Pefect combo. I still shoot em in my Savage 22-250, and 223 bolt gun.

I liked a Remington 50 grain PLHP and 35 grains of 748 and my old 788 would hold around a half inch at 100 yards or better. I would imagine any flat base bullet would be quite similar but reduce and work up.

You are limited in Cartridge over all length vs magazine length. So, the amount of wear you have on your throat may be a consideration when you are choosing bullets.

I shot a lot of coyotes, chucks, with Sierra 55g BTHP,

H380, IMR 4064, H4895, Win 760, all worked well, and Varget may shock you at the velocity with extreme accuracy.

Bed the 788, freefloat the barrel, re spring the trigger, should have a 3/8" rifle. Clean frequently, use good de copper cleaning fluid.

When hit, Coyotes don't know the difference between a SMK and a Barnes TTX. Either one they are DRT.

Sadly, I could never equal the long since discontinued 40gr. Federal Blitz in my 788 .22-250. Those would be touching at 100 yards. I had a woodchuck pop up at about 25 yards once. It left the forequarters and hindquarters connected by a length of spine. No guts, ribs or even hide.

50 gr nosler bAllistic tip and varget with a 210 or 210m primer.Works great in 14 twist for me and blows up better than match bullets. Mv 3800

First off please do not hunt pets, that's cruel.! Second i had a 788 , 22-250 and the best load=.25" consistently was 41 grains h380 with 40 grain noz.bt. = 3800 fps+ not the fastest load but super accurate. Always look at load data before loading.
