Jim I think I'm about Organisation-ed OUT. Were did this Global Club come from anyway.
Mike I understand were your coming from about Recognizing each others records but until you get to the Nationals or the World open were everyone is on the same playing field it should only be a club record!

I can agree with that. But I wish clubs/organizations would stop calling things a light gun WORLD RECORD. Or a heavy gun WORLD RECORD. Because was it an IBS record? Or was it a Williamsport record? Or was it a Global? Was it 5 shots or 10? In my eyes a WORLD RECORD is just that. World record that knows no "club/organization" restrictions. So call it an IBS light gun 5 shot record. Or call it a Williamsport 10 shot heavy gun Record. Stop calling things a world record until you collaborate with the rest of the people in the world. I may never even set one, its just frustrating trying to see the ones that have been set, when your setting your sights ;)

OH and we should reorganize each others memberships!

So for the most part everyone pretty much follows Williamsport rules with the exception of the light gun record string. Rest, Weight, etc. If Williamsport was the first sanctioned body of 1000 yard benchrest why not adapt their rules entirely and be done with it. Then, anytime a Sanctioned organization following those rules breaks a record during a sanctioned event they are the "World Record" holder.

Seems funny to me if you go to a IBS match as a guest and break one of their records during a match they don't recognize it. Kind of hard to rationalize that type of thinking.

Looks to me the hardest thing to do here is determine a sanctioned match.

Seems funny to me to rationalize only shooting as a guest, and get the same opportunities and recognition's as paid members.
Do you want the gun and ammo furnished to?

I heard it's out of Virginia and from what I heard also, (Don't know if it's true or not) Jeff Green has something to do with it.

gunner and Mike when I was President of the Williamsport 1000 yard Club I pushed to try and get things on a level playing field, that was 17 lb. rifles no restrictions, and that we recognize each others memberships and rules other than that were pretty much the same at that time. But then things started going the other way. (Why? Everyone wanted something different.)
It's not like this is a money making sport, it's suppose to be fun, a Hobby. I've more than likely been shooting 1000 yard longer than anyone on here, and I'm still in OWE on how many people
that can't agree with each other on rules. When I started it was unlimited, shoot what brung. It had to be on sand bags and of course it had to be safe. Know there are some many different rules
no one knows if they are legal, especially if they break a record you don't want it tossed out if something isn't the way it says in the rules.

Now let a that sink in for a while and tell me what you think.

My hope/goal would be to get everyone under the same organization. That would within itself grow the sport because it would be so large. There needs to be a strong organizing body that enforces rules, keeps accurate records, and organizes. Otherwise we are just shooting club matches. You wont see the dedication and work that goes into advancing the sport if theres nothing up for grabs. I hope at some point we could all see that and find a way to come together and just try to shoot some small groups. I really hope to see Williamsport join the IBS. Even with all its faults the IBS is the largest and best run game in town IMO.

If you're trying to encourage new shooters to the sport I'd think you'd like to do everything in your power to do so. Whats the big deal to honor the smallest group or the highest score whether your a member or not. Other organizations do it, but they also have a limited number of times you can shoot there as a guest. This is not about being a guest or a member, it's about a "World Record" my way of thinking is that is the smallest group or highest score shot during a sanctioned match.

I'm certainly not going to join an organization to shoot 1 match a year if i'm in the area. I'll pass on the gun and ammo, I'm pretty fond of my own equipment, thanks anyhow

You should have to be a member to break a record or have any points or stats kept up with. If you did not have to be a member, no one would be and there would be no organization period without members. If you do not support the organization enough to be a member of it, then why are you shooting matches anyway? I shot the World Open at Williamsport last year and probably will again this year. If they did not recognize IBS members to shoot and you had to be a member of Williamsport to shoot there, I would have joined. But to act like IBS records or any other organizations records are not as good or valid as another organizations records is silly.

Why would Willimasport change anything, there the most successful range there is (+50-years of proof), and they don't change rules, or shoot 3 separate non-uniform formats.

Donovan If I remember Alex was offering a free gun and Ammo to shoot at a match to help get new shooters. You trying to say if that person got lucky and broke a record it wouldn't count?

Joe Salt
At one of the club's I shoot with it is explained that since they're not a member they will be listed as a "disqualified", as it was to me in the first match I shot. I only went to that match to check it out and one of the guys insisted I shoot his gun and setup. I had a blast, got my own gun, setup, membership and have not missed a match at that club in 5 years.

All the long range rules are all so similar I wish we could all be under the same body. Regardless of the body. I just see it as the bigger the organization, the bigger the prize for the winners and record holders which will help grow the sport. F-class is a very good example. If you broke F-class up into 5 different sanctioning bodies you would see far less enthusiasm surrounding that game.

So far as the club gun goes, our club doesnt charge but its made very clear to the new shooter the rules regarding their choice to become an IBS member or not.
