When you know you are having a bad day!

Got a call from my rifle builder with some bad news. After waiting months for a custom reamer and a new barrel, he said when the barrel was being chambered the reamer shattered and destroyed the barrel. He didn't add much other than to say, do you want me to order another reamer and barrel ?

Now stunned and realizing the gentleman on the other end of the phone was not a happy camper and speaking to me, another not so happy camper, what could I say?. Well, yes go ahead and order the replacements.

How often have you had to make a similar call?

Dang, can he set it back some???
 
Wasn't even offered the option of setting the barrel back. Not sure I would be too thrilled with that because the barrel contour to stock fit likely would be affected depending how much it would need to be cut.

Hopefully his insurance will cover the extra cost/replacement and not you paying more than originally quoted.

Hmm...................When he asked if you wanted him to order a new reamer and barrel...????
I think that he, as the gunsmith, should advise you that your project is going to be running late because of some difficulties. I believe I would speak to him again to be sure that everyone is on the same page.

Ive never even thought about this happening... shitty situation for all..

What brand reamer was it?
I was in a class when one student broke 3 reamers in as many weeks . He finished and opened a shop . I don't know how long it lasted .
Reamer bring has nothing to do with it , just the wait time .
 
Your post makes it sound as though the GS was asking if you wanted to purchase another barrel and reamer. Maybe the conversation wasn't exactly as you posted it, but if it was, I would be on the phone to verify his meaning, because you should not be held responsible for this issue. Also, I would want to verify that if he is ordering the replacements that he is going to order the same ones you did.

He’ll never know thats an er shaw or green mtn barrel right?
 
I'm with the others on this ,it's his baby.The only thing you should have to endure is a time delay.Also supports my motto -machine is on glasses on!
