I have a dumb question

Comparator tool...

Example we use it to measure OAL off the oj with a bullet seated.

When measuring case shoulder bump, do yall use a bigger caliber comperator, say a 30 cal to measure the shoulder on a cartridge with a 6mm neck? So it goes over the neck?

Or what tool is used best for measuring shoulder bump

Thanks. I dont own a hornady anything and didnt wanna start. Wow.. ive been doing it wrong for YEARS!

Do these fit the redding comperator holders for calipers?

Can't speak to the Redding. Mine are Sinclair.
It has a 0.25" insert depth, drops into a 0.50" bore.

Piece of 9mm brass or 40 sw upside down works pretty well on the cheap. Also if you buy a die from harrels they send you a nice bump measure tool as well.

From the link in Chromatica's post (the link to the Sinclair comparator inserts):

"Rather than measuring to the datum line, these gages indicate off of the shoulder of the case to get a better, more easily assessable measurement of how much you are actually sizing your cases."

Can someone translate exactly what they're saying? I's assuming it's given that: 1) the shoulder datum line is an arbitrary point, generally selected as halfway down the shoulder, 2) As far as I can tell, the Sinclair inserts are identical to the Hornady inserts (though I have no idea on the hole size -what Guffey would call a "datum"), and 3) that statement seems to say that rather than measure this way, we measure this way [which is identical], but our way is better.

Am I missing something?

Lol no... theres guages that indicate of a datum point on the shoulder then some that cover the whole shoulder and are cut to the shoulder degree angle. This aint nothing crazy hard
