20 vartarg load info

A guy that goes by Harold M has an extensive thread on Saubier about a benchrest quality rifle chambered in 20 VarTarg you should read if you haven't already. He has tried both of those powders.

I've asked a few member on this forum about using N133 and the feedback is N133 is too slow for meaningful velocity.

Thanks guys I have h4198 I was just wondering if any body has tried Lt-32 or v-133 because I have some of both these powders to,I know V-133 might be a little slow

For powders in the 20VT, for me it came down to three that give excellent results with the 32 grainers, both velocity AND superlative accuracy: RL-7, A2200 and H4198. If you've got any of those also, you're in good shape.

I keep it simple with my 20's....p/dogs are my game........

40 gr moly V max in all three...

H322 in my Vartarg...H322 in my 20-222....H4895 in my 20 Practical

All 17# Salvage/Pac-Nor s/shot builds......p/dogs hate 'em....

I see that you have some 20 cal rifle I was thinking of building a 20 vartarg for you what has been the best overall barrel twist for you
And do you really like the vartarg

Rockchuck, I'm on my third 20 VT. 22", 23", and 24". Two with 1:12 twist, and one with 1:11 twist. Unless you are shooting 40 grain V-Max the 1:12's work fine with the 32 grainers. Have shot nothing but H-4198, and it has always worked well for me...and yes I still like it after a lot of years:) 7315br

Get a 3G 11tw and dont look back.

What freebore length on your reamers works best also when useing lapua brass what neck diameter would i need for a no turn case

Head over to SAubier, hook up with the articles on 20 VT as a hunting and BR round, HaroldM wrote em. Good info, well documented. Or PM him

I seem to remember (somewhat) that there was quite a discussion about reamers ground for Remington brass or Lapua brass. Seems there was a difference that was significant. Anybody else recall this. I have aquired CSS, CHS, and CRS.:rolleyes: dedogs

It's definitely something you'll want to discuss with your gunsmith because if you plan to use Lapua brass, and I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't, they have a little thicker necks and you'll want to make sure the reamer has enough neck clearance, unless you plan on neck turning. I recently went through this with my 20-222 build, there were multiple different reamers available and when I specified I would be using Lapua 222 brass I was told they had a specific reamer they used if you were using Lapua.
