What Reticle?

I like a plain crosshair or a crosshair & dot of suitable dimension. All this fruit and hash marking only predisposes you to count too few or too many marks or lines or marks on the incorrect side of zero.

If you don't planning adjusting your scope, learn your target's dimensions & aim off as necessary (in MOA or Radians as your fancy takes you).

If you shooting Precision steel matches at 1000 yards or farther that's a good reticle, when you have to shoot fast in a small alotted time, you do not have the luxury of dialing scope. The christmas tree reticle makes it fast for windage adjustment,If you don't need it ,The mil-dot, mil-rad.mil-hash as well as the MOA or m rad. It's a matter of personel preference

You can not shoot what you can not see. The more simple the better. This gets to be a very personal thing. I like fine cross hairs with a dot but the dot must be big enough that it does not get lost with black reticle on black target. None of that extra wanabe sniper hash is helpful for us target shooters.

Is your long range target paper or steel? Makes a big difference when choosing. I cannot speak for the paper guys (f-Class/BR), but have experience shooting steel.

Paper shooters aside, I don't know anyone who has gotten their reticle choice right the first time. Next week something newer and shinier will be out.
If you have the opportunity to shoot a few different ones, it's a big plus.

Thanks everyone for the input, I'm thinking a less cluttered reticle is what would be best for me. Now for the million dollar question, I have a $1200 budget and narrowed it down to these...?..

I know some have cluttered reticles but I feel these are my best options at my price point.

I'm not going to look at your picks, but if you want a busy reticle for your first, get one that is numbered below the center. Count, recount, recount again does not work.

I choose FFP with a Christmas tree grid reticle.

Shot corrections are lightning fast.

If you're talking 2,000+ yards, then second focal plane is ok too because you're not rushing follow up shots like you would in PRS type shooting.

Those are all pretty good choices. A used Vortex Gen 1 Razor or Steiner T5x are good options too for a little bit more.

On a 32 or higher power scope what about mirage at 600 - 1000 yards in the summer ?Along with the reticle ?

if they do I want commissioned! for every one retrofitted LOL :)

cheap redneck fix..in variety of colors also.

it really don't move that easy on its own but keeps me from messing with it! as once focus is set, it should be good till the rubber bands rot and fall off then time to check focus again ;)

and pick new colors too

Pro-Tip: Cut a piece of bicycle inner-tube next time ;)

You have not specified by what you mean by target shooting. I don't think you know.
The steadier the support of the rifle, the finer the reticle can be (benchrest, Fclass)
For less support, you will need a better defined reticle (PRS and NRA highpower)

Steel out to 1000 yds
