Sunday cook up....

Who the hell else, Tom Brady and someone else. Not even interested. Probably rent a movie, then eat, then I'm going to reload.

Gumbo, hour 3, pre shrimp. Forgive my cluttered house.
edit - never mind about renting a movie - John Wick is on!
Dang, Reb...I can be there in what, 45 minutes or so...that gumbo would beat the heck outta what I'm having.havin for supper!

As far back as I can remember, my family and friends of family have always done chili. I don't watch the NFL at all, but I'll still turn on the game at the end of the 4th quarter in the hope that Tom Brady lost. Now you guys have got me thinking about food. Too late to start ribs, so I'm going to have to dig through the freezer.

Order 50 wings and start the chili for tomorrow.;)

Tri Tip roast going on the BBQ at 3:30, garlic mashed potatoes, beans, bread. Pigs in the blanket for appetizers. Do not normally watch the National Felons League, but have a couple of friends coming over to watch. Just finished reloading for Phoenix (400 rounds) on Friday.

Too late! Looks like it will be minestrone. Fresh from last summer's garden, I have blanched and peeled heirloom tomatoes, sweet onions, dried hot peppers, and sweet corn. Plus I still have a lb of a friend's home-made sausage and chickpeas from summer's harvest. Wish I still had a wood stove to cook it on.

I know they wont last so a recipe/load data
Will do.
Load data

Nice Gumbo, yeah rice definitely . Who's John Wick???

I am not a football fan, or any other professional sport really. However, it has become somewhat of a tradition for ol' Mike to be in the kitchen, cooking up something so my beautiful bride can watch all the superbowl commercials on a full belly. This year, inspired by a friend that was raised in Louisiana, I am preparing gumbo. I have already started the dish as it needs to cook for hours. I can reload while it simmers....
Anyone else do anything like this?
Started when my three children were younger than 10 as a way include them in a family party. I spent 16 full seasons coaching various sports in high school. My kids didn’t always get to see their dad during the season. Just a simple way to include them in some of the fun excitement that surrounds organize sports.
Now only one shows up, but he brings his wife and kids. This year pulled pork barbecue with various dips, sauces, and other side items. In deference to my cardiac condition my wife even prepares a vegetable and a fruit tray. However I didn’t eat it.

Over the course of my life I have been exposed to many different foods, but for me their is only one meal that I would choose as my favorite. In my tiny corner of the world it is a family gathering staple. Sheboygan small meat market bratwurst, on a Sheboygan hard rolls, with german brown mustard, real butter, onions, pickles, and ketchup. The brats must be cooked on a charcoal flame. Around here that is know as a brat fry. The smell of brats cooking in my area always makes me hungry. Have cooked them outside in below zero temperatures. My all time favorite food. North to Manitowoc, west to Fond du lac, or south to Port Washington, those people can't them worth a damn. Around here brat frys are the major fund raising activity year round.

The New Orleans Times Picayune trolled the NFL nicely today. Today’s front page:

Hope everyone's Superbowl Sunday food was better than mine. The sausage had a funny smell, but I cooked it anyway with all the Italian sausage seasonings. Then it smelled worse. I recognized the odor, but could not quite place where I had smelled it before. Then it hit me. It smelled like a hog farm, but it took some googling to figure how that odor gets into the meat. For those who have never experienced this and have a sensitive nose, be prepared to blow chunks. I had vegetarian minestrone last night, and I might not be able to eat red meat again for a while.
