T/C Compass 308 Win

Just won a T/C Compass in 308 win. 20" barrel and 1:12 twist rate.

Thinking of trying to shoot it at 600 yds.

Will this gun perform at this range?

I do shoot Savage 12 F/V, 6.5 CM at 600. Was wondering if the Compass will shoot as good as my Savage.

Anyone using the compass?

It should shoot well from what I have heard. Try 168s or 175s over Varget and you should be good once it's broken in a bit. Know that the Sierra 168s are good bullets and they are designed for 600 yd. shooting with 22" M1A rifles. Past that distance they will have a hard time making accurate hits as their boat tail is pretty short.
Berger 168s would be an outstanding choice.

The Sierra 168's were designed for 300 meter shooting. Yes, Have shot a lot of them at 600 yds thru M-14's. Your 20" barrel is shorter than a M-14 22". Only way you will know is to shoot them. Try 42.0 of IMR 4062 over the 168 or the 175. Those were the Match loads for our M-14's.

A friend got an Icon in 6.5 creedmoor, he bought at the same time a case of 140 grain Federal Gold Medal match. He told me that it would make a clover leaf or a ragged hole at 100yds. $279 minus $50 mail in rebate. If they keep this up they will have out Savaged Savage.

Might try 43gr of 4064 behind a 175 Scenar L , if there's room in the throat for that bullet . Short barrel and 12 twist , might have to "up" the velocity just a bit . .010 off touch to start. .012 worked for me , but I have a 26" on my 600 yd. rifle . A rookie mistake ....

The Icon hasn’t been made in few years now. That was TC’s failed attempt at breaking in to a more upscale market. They are really nice guns that didn’t sell very well. People didn’t want to pay the price.

If your buddy bought one for $279, that’s a steal. When they were getting rid of their final inventory about the best price I saw was in the $550 to $600 range. They were a good buy at that price IMO.

I noticed it was not a barrel nut gun. And looked much nicer than the compass. I saw the Icons on gun deals and several dealers had them cheap with a $50 rebate. I would have jumped but Ive got 3 6.5s now and a barrel waiting.
