The Right Action

How does the mausingfield do besides flinging brass 32 feet into the grass?

Mine has the opposite problem, it doesn't have enough ejection happening, I'm thinking of ordering another extractor to try and asking if ARC would tune it for 6mmBR.

Most custom actions are nothing more than refined M700's, with a few upgrades like side bolt release and a different extractor, right?

The main thing I like about the M is that it will pull out a case no matter what, not that I'll take advantage of that - lets hope anyway.

The other is that the extractor pulls away from the case rim when the bolt closes.

Purely anecdotal but the Bartlein barrel I had on my trued M700, which was setback at 400 rounds and installed on the M, shoots better that it did before and the newish 6mmBR prefit is amazing.

Lugs in full contact - toroidal.

I suppose every action has things about it one could point out.

How far the .308 cases are ejected from my Mausingfield is strictly a function of the alacrity in which I work the bolt. I can drop them right next to me, or hit the guy in the next shooting lane, or just about anywhere I want them to land. 32’ might take a little effort though.

Generally speaking, during an F Class match, they fall right next to my ammo box

IT sounds like the OP has already picked one out, so this may be for naught. Just about everything here that's been mentioned is going to work amazingly well for a N. American hunting rifle. If I was going to Africa where the stuff you kill can kill you back, there is no doubt in my mind it would be a Mausingfield. I have four of them and two Nucleus, and I've never had a single feeding or extraction issue with any of them. For anyone that is experiencing stiff bolts, I highly recommend you time the trigger. If that's too technical for you, just try another make of trigger and you will find one that smooths it out to near perfection. Of note, I've had great luck with the BnA two stages and all model of Trigger Techs, but the diamond is amazing.

Newguy, do you like that diamond over the bna?
I know I do! That is if you are referring to the Tac Sport. The Bix Comp Trigger is the King for the BR game. If you want a crisp, repeatable trigger and don’t need to go lower then 4 oz, the Diamond is for you. First I went down the Jewell road, then the Bix and now onto the Diamonds. I have never been happier. I feel it is unbeatable in a hunting, plinking, Varmint or PRS rifle.

Good to know. I may try one on a hunting bat vr I'm building.

I do. The only down side to the Trigger Tech is that it's only available in single stage. I put a Diamond in my Vudoo as well to match my most used MF. They feel very nearly the same with both wearing KRG W3 stocks.

My BnA in a MF is a two stage so it's not apples to apples. I also have one of the original BnAs in a single shot RBLP Deviant and it's in a class of it's own for that purpose, but it doesn't have a safety and it's set to 30grams. Not exactly what I want when coyote calling or banging steel. It does work great out on a prairie dog town though.

Looking to put together a 6x47 for hunting. I can't decide which bolt action to go with. If you had your choice of actions for a deer rifle which bolt action would you chose? I've already picked out the barrel, now I need an action to match with it.
My version for my #1 coyote smacker....6x47 Lapua, Melanited Bat VR action with integral rail, 22" Rock 8 twist #3 barrel, McMillan Classic Edge stock sans paint, Jewell trigger, Seekins rings, & Nightforce 2.5-10x32 IHR. 8 pounds, 3 ounces.

right now I run a stiller with great success as far as dirt and grit goes. It might not be the best but as far as hunting senaro goes it flat out works. My newest build should be done at the end of the month and it has a kelbly atlas tac action which from just handling I think I prefer over my stiller.

My next build will probsbly be on an impact or bighorn tl3.

Alf,

Very nice looking rifle. How are the Berger 105 VLD bullets expanding for you on coyotes? I am trying them in my 6x47 as well. Very interested in your results so far on the elusive yotes! Thanks for any info you can provide.:D:D

Toroidal??!! Man, Ijust wish I knew what that meant.

Neat concept.
May be why the savages’ floating head works so well. Let’s full engagement of lugs, and bolt face alignment. Maybe we’ll start seeing a u joint behind lugs/face now?

Savages floating head does nothing for lug contact. Its for ease of manufacturing

If it's floating I think it's doing something. Not talking about a lot movement needed.
I think it also has to do with manufacturing.

I had a Barnard action rebarreled to a 6x47 Lapua with a reamer and barrel twist for 70 to 80 gr range. (Reamer so I can get to the lands.) I am getting great groups with my Thunderbeast Ultra 7 suppressor attached and up around 3700'/s with 70 gr. Ballistic tip varmint.
Hodgdon has some reload data now, as well as lots of data on the Internet. (Obviously be careful) (also there is a 6x47 round that is NOT this Lapua round.)
Most load data and rifles are set up for heavier match bullets.
Opinion on price - shoot it and if accurate, a great price! You may want to check the twist to see what it is set up for.
