I have had great results using the N570 line of powder. The N565 has caught my eye. Should be a touch faster than H1000. Maybe similar to RL26. Has anyone given it a run yet? I have a 7 saum in the works with .235 freebore and 180s will be sent.

I have found out that some time during the first quarter of 2019, Viht is coming out with their entire line of powders that will be like N565! They all will be temp stable, burn clean and as always, lot-to-lot consistent! However, to answer your direct question, I have not tried it.. However, for what you are proposing to use it for, it should be great!

Yes, a very interesting question that. Viht tends to use quite high nitroglycerin percentages in its N500 series powders which also tends to make them considerably slower burning than their N100 equivalents in real terms despite what Viht says in its literature. I suspect there will be a significant barrel life cost in the SLR substituting N565 for 165 in this relatively over-bore capacity combination. (Might just be fun though anyway!)

I've just bought a tin of 565 myself for a long-freebore 260 Rem as Viht has published some loads for it in both 260 and 6.5X55mm. I'll be able to compare it against N160, 560, and 165 eventually with 140s in it. So far, N560 is producing MVs over 100 fps below QuickLOAD predictions whereas N550 exceeded them and I pulled my three hottest loaded test cartridges.

Viht has 'pushed' N565 quite hard in Europe in its marketing for the 338 Lapua Magnum. Looking at the company's load data for this cartridge, there are few tables that incorporate 165, 560, 565, 170, and 570 to allow comparisons, but one is for the 250gn Berger OTM Tactical where maximum charges and MVs are as follows:

N165 ........... 89.5gn/2,851
N560 ........... 89.0gn/2,907
N565 ........... 92.1gn/2,920
N170 ........... 94.3gn/2,858
N570 ........... 96.9gn/2,959

That's a 2.4% MV increase for a 2.9% charge weight addition for N565 v 165, a lower ratio than N570 v 170 (4.9% more velocity for +2.75% charge) and only just improves on a 3.1gn lighter charge of N560.

That suggests (on a sample data-set of one!) that N565 is a fair bit 'milder' than either N560 or N570.

Hello Laurie! I am wondering if Viht is going to lower their nitro content a bit to keep barrels from frying so fast. I would gladly sacrifice some velocity to keep a cooler flame! It is nice to know that they are finally getting on board with temp-stable powders!

From VV website it’s 4000 j/g. Same as N570 and N560. I have noticed that higher velocity powders including the Reloder powders have high temp burning factors. Have to get speed somehow. VV is claiming very temp stable on N565

I have gotten good accuracy & added velocity with N 570 in a 6.5 wc, but it was really rough on my barrel. Hawkeye showed excessive fire cracking and flaking from throat to muzzle after 50 rds over two days. I was warned about high temperature burn, but being "a slow learner" I had to prove it to myself. I'll go back to Retumbo and try to resurrect the barrel with JB.

My newest update for QL has the new Viht N565 in it, but I'm not sure the information QL is showing for N565 is correct because it doesn't seem to jive with what Vihtavuori says/claims. I'm actually hoping the QL information is incorrect because running with the numbers using N565 in QL it's not looking all that impressive. Hopefully real world testing will prove differently, otherwise I'll have 5lbs of paper weights.

Quickload info on n565 is dangerously off. I shot it today with 230 bergers in my 300 win mag. It is exactly the same as rl26 just in a different jug and more expensive. But once again do not use the data for it on quickload, it shows it's about 5gr slower than it really is.

Did you get good velocity like you did with RL26? It’s the first powder they claim to be temp stable. I wonder how that will turn out.

Yes it gave good velocity, actually 10fps more than rl26 for the same powder charge.

I shot it today at 24 degrees f. So as soon as it warms up I will have a little better idea on temp sensitivity.

As I said above, the QL info on Viht N565 was not jiving with the information Viht had released about their new N565 so it's great to see some real results, thank you!

Now, when you say N565 was exactly the same as RL26 in your 300 Win mag, does that mean you loaded the exact same amount of N565 as you did RL26, with the 230 Bergers, and the only difference was N565 was 10fps faster? Same OAL for both too??

If this powder is in fact rl26 or a variant it may do the same thing that rl26 does and that's act differently in every single cartridge you use it in. I've used rl26 in 6 different cartridges and have to adjust quickload differently for each one. It seems to mimic a different powder in each different cartridge.

You should try and let some round some get warm in the house or truck and let them rip. They said between N560 and N570.

I just recieved a lb. of N-565, (the last of my winnings from the BSWN).
I'm going to give it a test in my 284 Shehane, 6SLR and 6.5 GWI. I'll report back when I have some meaningful data.
