6.5 Creedmoor brass and primer question.

the brass you buy will have either large or small primer pockets and that my friend will tell you which primer you will be using in your rifle

I use large but as soon as this brass goes south I will use small. Why? Because I have a large amount small rifle primers.

It was tested in early 2018 thru ammunition pressure test barrels as well as accuracy barrels.

There was absolutely no practical difference in performance from a 100 to 1k yards.

So in my opinion as of right now....pick your poison.

I’ve only shot large primers (that’s the ammo and brass I only have for now) and I cannot complain about anything.

Eventually I’ll try small primer out of curiosity.

correct but let me add when testing the brass for the 308 for the Canadian ftr team for the recent worlds we discovered the small primer Lapua brass lasted a lot better as to consistency with fps and longer brass life with hot loads

I am running Lapua brass in mine which is small primer. I am running CCI-450 primers. I am currently on the 15th firing cycle with this brass and I have had 2 cases with loose pockets. The es and sd numbers with this brass are very good. These cases will stand up to a good amount of pressure and still give good case life in my experience. I also run small primer Lapua Palma brass in two .243 Win barrels that I have. These cases have seen some serious pressure as well and have held up very well. Hope this helps.

I’ve been using Peterson. I’ll keep using it too and hope they expand their offerings, it’s very consistent and I’m getting long life out of it. Small primer for me. They sell it on Grafs now for just under for 40 cents a piece.

I have shot both Hornady and Lapua brass. Performance wise I can tell no differance on paper or animals shot. I haven't shot any matches, just paper, deer, and hogs. I also have yet to chronograph any of the Lapua either.

I've ran the small and large, Hornady, Lapua and Peterson. The only difference I've found is the small pocket seems to hold up longer and I feel that I can run higher pressures with the small primer pockets, but that's probably just in my head because the pressure witness marks doesn't show up as easily. Personally I prefer the Lapua over the Peterson .... just my opinion.

Brass was tested at normal working pressures. Not intentional over/hot loads.

When a ammo/bullet maker test ammo and or components it is normally to a given standard.

At times they will deviate but it's on a case by case (no pun intended there) basis or it's done for a specific reason.

I have yet to see any improvement on paper or in performance when using a small primer in the Creedmoor. Unless you have a firing pin bushed or a custom action plan on using CCI #450's or you will have pierced primer problems. I much rather use the large rifle primers and avoid the hassle of changing out components in my priming press and reloading dies to handle the small primer.

It's actually 80 cents each. For $39.99 you get 50 cases.

Not to hi-jack, but along those lines....

Has anyone beat on the Winchester or Remington creedmoor brass? I'm just getting geared up to load for the one I bought, and I got a deal on some 1x fired Win and Rem brass. There were also a few Horn and Fed cases mixed in. I have more RP brass than Win, but when I checked capacity the Win had 3 to 4/10's more which mirrored the Hornady cases I received. So the Win cases will get the call first. This is LR primer of course.

Just my opinion here but I think your better off buying new brass of all the same lot number
