131 Blackjack

I was considering building 25SST. But being in Canada and not knowing if I could get the Black Jack bullet I opted to build a 6SST and A 7SST. If they become available here I’ll chamber a barrel for 25SST. I also wasn’t aware proof was making a fast twist 25 caliber barrel. I’m really looking forward to the SST. The numbers are impressive with the 110 Sierra running 3400 fps.

What twist is optimal? Would a 1-7.5” work in a .257 Weatherby?

These bullets are making me want to chamber a .257 Weatherby.

Being that Proof is a cut rifled manufacturer they should have the ability to cut any twist a person may want.

Maybe I should of looked into it again. But over on LRH guys were saying earlier proof wouldn’t cut barrels with that fast of a twist unless it was a huge order. Maybe it was all rumour? Still wouldn’t help me get the Blackjack bullets into Canada. Could import them I guess. But that’s a hassle with a extra expense.

According to the the Proof Research website, 1:10" is the only twist rate currently available. You might be able to arrange a special purchase with a faster twist rate, who knows?

257 - 26 - 10 - 2.5 - 1.20 - Sendero Light - 3lbs-4oz - 104897 - $830

They make certain twist rates and do not offer just any twist you ask for even though they are a cut rifle house.

Max velocities should be approximately the same as a 6.5 Creed or 6.5x47 slinging 130's.
Bearing surface will be a factor and sometimes a powder just happens to be ideal for a combination, but generally reducing the bore diameter and keeping the same weight bullet raises pressure a smidge.

I apologize for my absence but things have been crazy. We are probably selling 10k a week and there is plenty information available about performance on the day to day social media pages of Blackjackbullets.com.

We answer our Facebook messages ASAP but don't have as much time to patrol forums and check in with everyone like we used to.

As most of the PRS style shooters have found our test data of 0.330 G7 was a little conservative. Most shooters are using 0.345-350 G7 in their kestrels and applications for center hits from 800-1500 yards.

In a 25x47 you can achieve 2975 fps in 25" barrel and can run faster if you want to push it or use a longer tube. At 2970 fps this is just ahead of a 180 hybrid out of a 7 mag or a 28-32" 284 shehane.

25 Creedmoor will run 2975-3070 fps in Lapua SR brass. This is basically cheating in my opinion. Superior performance to any 6.5 creedmoor bullet pairing and a good improvement on target energy.

25x47.jpg

In 25x284 we have a good bandwidth from 3140-3211 fps. In 25-06 3140-3200+ shows similar performance. 3250-3300 in 25 SAUM. 3350-3380 in 257 WBY.

Anyhow, they are shooting great in terms of accuracy, they are made consistently, and the Ballistic performance is all there. I knew we would face a period of skepticism which has been addressed countless times with test data and customer testimonials. As far as a business standpoint we are well past that now because the active tactical/PRS/NRL community is pretty tight-nit on social media, most everyone with a custom mag fed rifle is aware of the performance in the 131 ACE.

25x472.jpg

Numerous mule deer and elk were killed this winter with the 131 ACE from ranges of 200 yards to 815 yards. All of this was catalogued and celebrated on social media. We have had ZERO issues from our Long Range Hunters. We joke that the 131 ACE is not a hunting bullet - IT IS A KILLING BULLET.

I need to get back on AS more often and loop you guys in. I was putting a lot of time and effort to talk with target and F-Class guys up to the point of order 20 Blake Barrels just to get some traction going, but to be honest, there was not as much support coming from this market segment as the tac-comp and hunting crowd, so I suppose I dedicated my limited time resources where attention and sales have been coming in.

Recently we have offered $10,000 prize for a 25 cal shooter if they win the Nightforce Q Creek ELR Match and various other prize levels up to 20th place. We have other rewards programs for F-class, NRL, and PRS.

We will be getting in a healthy order of Proof Research 1:7.5" blanks in April and we will be submitting another Bartlein order this month.

We have 30+ 25x47 and 25 Creedmoor reamers that are due this month and I am placing an order for 50 more of each this next week.

We are quite busy and there are many signals the market is now responding. We will be taking on another 250,000 bullets soon and our second high BC 257 will be coming this year at the end of 2019.

Anyhow, I appreciate everyone's interest and truly appreciate our supporters. To our skeptics, all I can say is that the performance speaks for itself. It's nice getting photos sent to my cell or facebook account with shooters across the country thrilled with the accuracy and big improvement in target energy they see comapred to their 6mm and 6.5 creedmoors.

I can't wait to bring the second Blackjack Bullet out for the shooters!

While 25-06 may not be the best geometry and lack great efficiency there is no doubt this bullet at these speeds is more than enough ballistics for most people's needs!

These bullets are making me want to chamber a .257 Weatherby.

1:7.5" is great for 257 WBY and is the twist rate PROOF has now entered as an SKU for these runs of long range hunting rifles.

We will be receiving a number of these PROOF 1:7.5" in april.

1:8 will also work and Rock Creek has been handling most of those for us.

25 SAUM earned 2nd in Open Division in the Nightforce Q Creek ELR Challenge last month out of 200+ shooters with targets from 800-2100+ yards.

25 SAUM + 131 Blackjacks is an absolute laser at 3/4 mile.

Paul took home a killer trophy, a prize rifle, a big check for $2570 from us, and the pride of putting a whipping on a lot bigger cartridges and bullets all weekend.

Tubb ATR http://www.davidtubb.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=169 with T7T trigger. The forend is a custom tube Paul made to get the bipod further out for more stablity and recoil control for ELR matches. He can make them for other ATR shooters but they are not listed on any product page.

131 ACE fired at 3385 fps from 32" Blake Barrel and Rifle 1:7.5" blank which Paul Contoured and sleeved with aluminum and filled with compound. He believes this makes the barrel more forgiving in harmonics.

He and another shoot who was in 7th place at the end of day 1, said they've never had a cartridge like the 25 SAUM and don't want to shoot anything else lol

A true laser to 3/4 mile. Not too much recoil to manage either.

Do you have any barrels in stock ? If not do you know of anyone.

Hunting rifle . What twist 7-71/2 ?

Hal

The lightest we offer is Bull Sporter and we have various MFG in that type.

we have 2 Weatherby MK V style Ultra Light blanks in Lilja but they work on less receivers due to decreased tenon diameter. This may work in your application so please let me know.

Blackjack

The ultra lights are to small on the muzzle end.
Thanks for checking.
Has anyone shot any light bullets (87gr) out of the quick twist barrel just to
See if they will hold together and how they would shoot?

Yes we tested all sorts of factory ammo in a 1:7" twist 25-06 which is not recommended (1:7.5" is), and we had great accuracy and zero bullet blow ups.

This information can be seen on the Blackjack Bullets Facebook page and was probably cross linked on the FB 25-06 page and 25 Creedmoor pages as well.

With 1:7.5" twist you can run factory ammo and long range low wind deflection 131 ACEs too.

My 25-284 is shooting great at 3150 and it was an easy rifle to find a load for. Those BJ's just seem to want to go into one ragged hole!! My next build is going to be a 257 Weatherby that I plan to use with your, "hunting" bullet when it comes out. Have never owned a Weatherby so, I better get on the wagon before it's too late.

When will we know more about this hunting bullet? Same twist required? How heavy will this bullet be? Release date?
