Service Rifle Scopes that I haven't heard discussed.

Now granted I haven't looked everywhere. But from what I see, there are the NF, March and Leupold choices (and maybe other high end choices). Then on the other end is the Vortex Viper PST, 4x Weaver, Leupold (with some custom shop options) and perhaps more. such as Hi Lux. But suspect that Hi Lux is a Chinese manufactured optic. I've had better luck with Philippine made optics such as the mid range Vortex. I like to call myself a buy once cry once guy but I can't afford the NF/March offerings.

From what I see there are no mid range $600-$1200. So I started looking around and there are several to choose from. But I'm thinking there are reasons why these are not considered. Maybe the reticles too thick. I'd be curious to know what thickness is desired.

Also, none of these have adjustable parallax and some have 1/2 minute clicks. I guess maybe since they are more expensive than the PST but don't offer finer adjustment or adjustable parallax then why bother.

My only issue with the PST is that the reticle is tiny at 4x.

IOR 1.1-4x26 30 mm http://usaoptics.net/hunt-scope-ior-11-4x26.html
I don't think this scope is currently available new but could probably be found. I've owned a couple of IOR scopes and they were good.

Leica 1-4x24 http://us.leica-camera.com/Sport-Optics/Leica-Hunting/Riflescopes/Leica-Visus-i-LW/Range
Not a lot of info on the Leica reticle. Seems that the adjustments are 1/3moa per click and a reticle thickness of .2" at 100 yards (if I'm reading the information correctly)

Meopta 1-4x22 This is discontinued and I couldn't find a lot of information. 1/2 minute adjustment.

Nikon Monarch 1-4x20 https://www.nikonsportoptics.com/en/nikon-products//riflescopes/monarch-3-1-4x20-german-4.html
1/2 minute adjustments. I'm questioning the quality based on the price point.

Steiner 1-4x24 P4Xi https://www.steiner-optics.com/riflescopes/p4xi-1-4x24
Good looking reticle but the line thickness is .76" at 100 yards.

SWFA SS 1-4x24 (mil) https://www.swfa.com/swfa-ss-1-4x24-tactical-30mm-riflescope-109309.html
It's in Mils (as are others which may be borrowing trouble to have to convert) Also is it better than the PST?

Zeiss 1-4x24 https://www.zeiss.com/sports-optics...flescopes/conquest-v4/conquest-v4-1-4x24.html Reticle thicker than the Steiner.

And last but not least, the scope I'm really interested in.
Trijicon 1-4x24 https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product3b.php?pid=TR24
This has 1/4 minute clicks and a post type reticle. To me that seems to be perfect unless there needs to be some marks on the reticle for hold off if you don't want or need to dial for the wind.

Here's the other Trijicon 1-4x24 Accupower https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product3b.php?pid=RS24-C-1900000

This one has a line thickness of .33 MOA at 100 yards. MOA reticle and 1/4 minute adjustments. It just doesn't have adjustable parallax. A street price of $600.

What do you guys think?

I don't mean to take the air out of your balloon but most of the scopes you mentioned have capped turrets and while that's not the end of the world, target turrets are nice.
I have used the Steiner and it's pretty nice but either you have to exactly remember where you have it set or cranks the knobs all the way to the bottom and work up.
I had a leupold vx-r with the pig plex reticle that I sent in to get m1 knobs put on when I decided to go to optics. The crosshair is maybe a tad thick but at 3.5ish power the center ring makes a nice ring around the aiming black.

I have the Hi Lux. Passes the box test. Adjustable parallel (one of the primary reasons I chose it). Circle reticle allows me to not concentrate on crosshair placement (another primary choice). 1/4 MOA clicks.

No harm, no foul. This is why I posted, for the feedback. How many minutes of travel are needed between 200 and 600?

Very Happy with my Vortex PST's on my Service Rifles. Now discontinued but being sold by Midway under the Ranger name. Currently on clearance / sale at $308 with free shipping. I don't know if they only made a batch of X? number for Midway and when they are gone they are gone or if there will be more.

The ones listed in the Midway sale are 1/2 MOA adjustments - 1/4 MOA clicks might be better. If you have a solid hold the 1/2 MOA might leave you wanting for a finer adjustment. That might not be a deal breaker, plenty of shooters have had great success with 1/2 MOA. Regardless, these are a good scope and I have one of the original PST's myself (in MRAD). For the money, it is a great bargain, whether it is used for service rifle or any other shooting use.

I'm using a 4x VX2, M1 dials, and Leupold dot that is approximately 2.5MOA. It's working well - I don't plan on changing it anytime in the next few years.

The Vortex with 1/2 MOA adjustment served me well when I still shot HP. My rifle with that scope is for sale on Gun Broker if anyone is interested.

I use the Burris MTAC with the ballistic AR reticle and it seems to work well. It has 1/2 moa adjustments but I dont feel like it's much of an issue. I picked it up a in 2016 and never had problems with it.I did have it fall off my cart at Creedmoor east this past year and it landed on the elevation turret but it still seema to be working. I paid around $300 for it new

A friend of mine uses that same scope and does well with it. He loves the Reticle.
His only wish is that the turrets were bigger and easier to see and with nice solid clicks like on the PST's

If you don’t win the day it isn’t because of 1/2 minute clicks. The parallax issue has been shown to be a non-issue as well, just put one of the sighting discs on the rear or one of the drilled scope caps on the front.

I prefer the front cap on my Vortex as it makes the reticle contrast to the target pop.

Someone did the math on parallax over on the us rifle teams forums. Even at the highest (unrealistic) level of misalignment, the error is minimal at 4x. Practically, it’s just not a problem.

I wish when I was getting distinguished I could have used the excuse of "parallax error" for all my bad iron sighted shots. Isn't parallax eliminated if your are positioned correctly? I'm gonna use "parallax error" at my next Palma match and see how far it gets me.

I guess I learned ok since my first 600 yard string with my NF was a personal best of 198-9x with a 591 for the day. Parallax my a$$, learn to get behind the rifle properly and stay there.

Yeah, I saw that trick and it would seem to eliminate any misalignment problems. I'm putting my money back right now for the Ranger or a PST if I can find one used.
