Kelbly Atlas A True Rem 700 Drop In?

My apologies if this is available someplace. If it is I haven't found it.

Is a Kelbly Atlas a true Rem 700 drop in? Is the world of Rem 700 stocks open to me by using the Atlas?

I've speced out my next rifle to the point I'm going to start getting stuff. McMillan is 6 months out on delivery. If I could find 1/ a used stock or 2/ another manufacturer I wouldn't cry. I just don't know if I can truly get a Rem 700 compatible stock for the Atlas action or not.

Thanks.

The Kelbly Atlas action is not a "true drop-in" if using a Rem. 700 stock. Bell and Carlson makes a M40 style stock for the Atlas action but it is only available through Kelblys. When I bought an Atlas action a few years ago, Kelblys sold me a B&C M40 Atlas action stock that they had skim bedded. If I remember correctly, the price was about $400.

You'll probably have to do a little minor relieving to make room for the Atlas bolt stop/release on the left side of the action and the ejection port on the right side. This stock (below) is a B&C Medalist for a Rem 700 SA. Took me a few minutes with a Dremel, and a little sanding, to relieve the stock.

That's fantastic! I didn't realize the fit that *that* close. (i.e. I didn't realize the fit was that close and took so minor of changes).

If it's that minor of work that needs to be done that would open a ton of options - both in terms of price as well as availability.

Thanks a lot!

The one thing I found where a pure R700SA inlet didn't fit the Atlas was the trigger hanger.
You will need to have someone open up for the Atlas trigger hanger to fit into. Maybe also a little adjustment where the bolt handle goes into the stock.

Just an FYI. The Borden Alpine action is all but a drop in for a 700 stock. Just a little inletting needed for the side bolt release. That's all mine needed for a perfect fit. :D:D

I have two of the Atlas Tac actions now and as far as drop in fit goes the biggest issue I found was in letting for the trigger hanger.
The first one I put in a Greyboe Renegade with an MPA M5 DBM, I had to lengthen the ejection port to match cut out for the side bolt release and releave the inlet for the hanger up to the rear pillar. The bottom metal also needed some milling for clearance of the hanger.
The second one I put in an XLR carbon chassis and XLR machined the extra clearance for the hanger for me and refused to take any payment for the work, other than that it dropped right in.

They are very smooth actions right out of the box and only seem to be getting better with continued use.
