Rub it

Preacher , as usual your work is outstanding . Do you use a separate Pore Filler or just use the Arrow Wood Oil by itself ? I'm looking to re-finish a Rem. 722B Stock . The Factory Finish was a bear to strip . I like what has been variously called a London Oil Finish , a Satin Oil Finish , or an Egg Shell Luster Finish . Something like I've seen on old European Shotguns and close to what I've seen on Dakotas and High Grade Coopers . Something with a little more shine than Standard Coopers . Can that be replicated with the Arrow Wood Oil and fewer than 35 Coats ?
 
Absolutely beautiful! I will have to give it a try next time I finish a stock or set of grips. I usually use Permalyn but like most people, I'm always looking for something better. It also looks like you like the same author as I do.

I have used about every thing available over the years, and this stuff is the best ever..
10 coats will put on a nice glow..
I sand it in with 360 the 1st few times until the grain has filled in, then progressive grits for a while..
Finish it off by hand only for the last few coats..

Preacher , many decades ago I took a Wood Refinishing Class from a local Antique Dealer . He had developed a hand-heat settable Polyurethane which a lot of folks at that time said was impossible . It was Sold by a local Paint Store and produced the shiniest Finish I have ever seen and was impervious to sweat , rain , etc . I liked it on Furniture but not on Gun Stocks . I can't remember if I used Rottenstone or 4/0 Steel Wool to cut down the shine on Gun Stocks . Unfortunately when he passed away , the Formula went with him . My other favorite in those days was Herters Super Satin Silicol ( sp? ) . On trips I often stopped at Herters in Wauseca , Mn. and could tell a lot of funny stories about those visits . Thanks for the Info. on the Arrow Wood Oil and I will give it a try when my right arm & shoulder get back in better working order .
