IBS 1000 YD competators PLEASE READ !!!!

I shoot IBS 1000yd, I am a member of HJMR in WV, I don't shoot for SOY, but enjoy shooting be it 600yd BR, 1000yd BR, 22BR or any other type. If Virginia got it's own range that would mean I would have 4 1000yd clubs/ranges to shoot at within a 4hr drive. Now if Virginia shoots at HJMR I have four club/ranges within 3hrs there is no difference to me. We as shooters in this day and age need to grow the sport not argue like brats. It's almost impossible to start up a new 1000yd range in most areas, so we need to take advantage of what we have and grow the sport and not just 1000yd but all venues, or we will fade away. Please for my sons and your kids sake wake up and quit the infighting.

Every one has their own opinion we all have one if we agree or not it will be what it will be as Rodney King said can't we all just get along

From what I remember Rodney king didn’t turn the other cheek and not accept his 5 million dollar settlement. He probably said what you quoted laughing all the way to the bank.

A few things to think about

I have been on 3 sides of this issue, shooter, range owner and long range committee.

The IBS just like any other organization has flaws, (I belong to a few) but it has great people that are trying very hard to make it better each day, these are volunteers, businessmen, family men, taking time away to help all of us. I have always said the fees are to cheap, if we as members paid more so a full time job could be created for some hardworking individuals to stay on top of this, to look ahead just think where we could be as a organization.
As a past long range committee volunteer, my hat is off to all of you! It is a thankless job.
In the short time I was involved everyone (but one guy) was a team player and had the ibs at heart, trying to find new ways or make it better for the entirety of the Ibs. During this time I only saw one person doing things with his own agenda at heart, he was not telling the truth and was playing both ends ends against each other, he got caught!
One individual caused this issue to explode to where it is now.

Range owner, I have always been treated fair and square by the ibs. Stover and the committee have went out of there way to help get us off and going and when we screwed up, they helped to straighten us out, without an organization we have nothing.

Shooter
I definitely have seen both sides of this, from just wanting to sit down and shoot my gun to the full on SOY points chase, not once but twice, and never again.
I see people knocking the soy chasers, it is very to get wound up in the points chase when a shooter enters that arena. It takes a huge commitment of time and money, it will lead you to the edge of insanity, but with that said it is very rewarding to travel to all the different ranges and try to shoot great week in week out.
Wether a soy chaser or casual shooter we all get carried away at times, maybe do and say things we shouldn't.

SOY matches
We as shooters in the midwest and for that matter Northwest know we are not 1000 soy chasers unless we want to spend a small fortune , you dont hear complaints from them, not once. If we wanted to , we need to man up , move closer, spend more money traveling, but not Whine!
At 600 yards we are blessed to have many ranges, but we still have to travel 4 to 9 hours in several directions. Everyone has the same ability, if you dont like to travel, or cant afford to, that is not everyone else's problem.

With all that out of the way, I have a few questions

1. Do you really, honestly believe 20 soy matches at one range is ethical, a good thing, who does it help?
For those of us that just want a place to go shoot and enjoy, which is most of us, it does not matter if they are soy or not.

2. If you think they need 20 soy matches, then wouldn't you also think that Montana being so geographically challenged should get 30 Soy?
(No one from that club has ever said that, all ME!)
Just to wake you up.

Lastly I see alot of people adding there 2 cents to these discussions that do not even go to IBS matches and haven't for years, just stirring trouble!

We all started this because it was fun!
Keep it fun , keep it real, we are not getting PGA size checks here for a win.

VERY...WELL...SAID!!! Thank You Tom E!

Mike

Dear Iceman, You finished second in the SOY Race, A very commendable accomplishment. A honor that happens only once a year. Mike Wilson is one hell of a Shooter/Competitor. Maybe the best among us right now. There is no shame finishing second to Mike. In fact, he still has a dollar of mine from the Missouri Nats that I intend to get back at some point. I would like you look at your 2nd place finish and reflect on what the third, fourth, fifth and down the line finishers think about how easy you got to your 40ish matches vs their path to get to their SOY points. Do you think that its discouraging to others around the country that can't artificially produce 1K SOY points. It's not just about 1st place in this race. It's how you did that year, how you stand overall. It's bragging rights at the range. That's what this whole Agenda thing is about. To make things as equitable as possible for all of US. You're a hell of a shooter, your 2nd place finish proves that. But to win or place high on a level playing field means a whole lot more to me.

I felt as though you may be referring to my question and my observation, indeed I am not a member of the IBS and have no dog in the fight.
Please forgive me for interrupting your discussion.
Best wishes to all the members.

No worries here

It's just that there is alot going on , and when not involved, it's hard to follow what the truth is.

I agree with whoever said that arguing looks bad, I'm all about wanting to further shooting sports it's a passion of mine, my son and I have grown up together doing this.

But right is right and wrong is wrong

What I'm trying to say; was 15 of the top 20 shooters shot some of the HJ/VA matches and no one was better than Mike. So I'd say it shooter and not the amount of matches shot at one range. HJ and VA rent the range from the owner of the property. HJ does not own the property, or have a lease agreement. It is year to year. If anything happens to the owner; both clubs will be looking for new places to shoot.

I can't quite figure who gains having two clubs at the same range. It seems to me whoever lives the closest. What does not make any sense is why only one range in the country would be allowed to do that and not others.

I don't shoot a lot of IBS, maybe 1-3 matches a year. Having two clubs like HJ and VA at one range offer me the opportunity to make a match or two.

As for the SOY...how many guys made SOY from the HJ/VA setup shooting at HJ?

8 out of the top 20 shot at least 18 matches at HJ.

Even the SOY, so what is your point? shooters can get a lot of points at Harry on a double if you win. Hawks Ridge only shoots 1 match So nobody will go to the expense to shoot less... except those who don't have to stay over. Plus they take up 10 shooting days on the shooting calendar instead of 5..... jim

The SOY did not shoot but 4 matches at HJ. Hawks Ridge now shoots a 2 target system plus the shootoff so it is essentially the same as 2 matches. The question that the gentleman asked was how many made the SOY standings from the HJ/VA set up. I was merely answering a question, so THAT was my point. What is your point in getting involved in something that you clearly haven’t been doing for years? You spoke earlier about Hawks Ridge smelling of chicken, they haven’t had chickens in several years, so once again keep stirring the pot when you have nothing to do with it.

yes you are right, I haven't because of all the changes in the formats. I'm not stirring the pot , just stating facts. It seems to bother yours a relatively new guy. I started to shoot again but 600, it's quiet there. The long range rules haven't changed much and I'm not getting shot on 4 times a day..... jim
