It's that time of year. Let's see those kills.

View attachment 1075918 There he is! No big deer in Tennessee? This is a buck of a lifetime right there!

Edit: just got a call from the hunter, it’s hilarious how excited he is about all this. They have scored it at 180” by the taxidermist. This buck may be ranked as one of the states bigger taken once officially scored.

Happy guy! The smile says it all!

They can get big this one I think dressed out was right at 200 if not over. There were a few bigger ones taken this year that I know of. they are also known as the grey ghost around here they love to hide out in the dark timber where not much light gets through the canopy. it was tough getting it out whole in some steep country.

Whereabouts WA was he taken? They had a world class trophy deer (5 yrs old) BT killed in Jefferson County several years ago. . Just curious if this one might be related by a few generations.

Shot what i thought was a nice sized doe this morning. When i walked up, it was a small spike buck. Good meat in the freezer anyways.

Ugh that’s always the worst! At least you got something. My uncle is a huge hunter. We took him out one season for the first time in a while due to his busy work schedule. Well 15 mins into sitting in the stand we hear a shot. We go back over to my uncle. He’s stand over what looks like medium sized dog. It was a deer, to add icing on the cake it was a button buck. He was so pumped that he shot a deer for the first time in like 10 years. We just all shook our heads and didn’t say anything. Lol

Here are some bucks entered into the big buck contest I have going at the shop. All three are from a county just NW of me. They are on a more conservative season and it shows, plus being more mountainous. My home sits at 850 feet, my shop around 1200 and 15 minutes away I can be at 1800 feet. 30 minutes away I am at 2800.
Gets steep real quick and the deer can hide and grow to a mature age in that terrain. My county is shootem' up, brown it's down, insurance company influenced.

My buddy Dan took his daughter hunting for her first buck, she nailed a 7pt with a 410 slug in a dramatic kill. When hanging it next to the small doe he shot the day before she turned and asked her dad, “ Did you know what you were shooting at?” We still laugh about it 10 years later.

I'm not upset about it at all. I made a great shot, the animal dropped on the spot and now i have backstraps and summer sausage for another year. Plus, the morning was spent in the woods with a good friend. Couldn't ask for much more.
