284 questions

I got my new to me 284 win custom build, owner threw in some loaded rounds and i trust him so i ran to the range long enough to put 10 rounds down range at 200 yard. Recoil is definitely stouter than my 6.5 creedmoor but very manageable. Shots 1-5 were foulers and get a bit use to the rifle, shots 6-10 ended up being a .3125 moa group and i shot one of those 5 on accident. Have to get use to that 3oz trigger. Needless to say i am very happy.

Load is currently H4831sc and berger 180 hybrids. According to previous owner rl17 was just a bit worse. From my previous experience im going to assume the hogdon powder is much more temp stable too.

Your area can make a difference. Down South, RL17 was very consistent for me.

I just chambered a Krieger 8.75 twist in a 284 reamer with .315" ND and a .225" freebore. I am going to try 180 VLD Hunting and 184 F-Open bullets. I did throat it for the 184`s and its now a .245" freebore. I was thinking of trying N165, N560, and of course H4831SC and H4350. I know RL17 has added speed, but have no interest in anything other than accuracy. I am looking forward to testing these components.

One reason I am sticking with my load. I realize it may produce different results around the country, but I am not changing anything. First time on a 600 yard line, practice match it scored a 595 out of a possible 600. Sub MOA @ 600 any day of the week.

Chronographed several times with similar results

I do have the original tape from the Chronograph

How long is that brass gonna last? E

I have 200 peices of lapua with a total of 700 shots on them and 300 6.5×284 lapua brass still in the boxes untouched so i am assuming i have enough brass for several barrels to be shot out on.

All depends on your shooting habits.

I normally kept 1,000 cases on hand. I usually shot 3 times plus monthly.

So it's strictly up to the shooter. Depending on your load, avg brass life is 7 up to a possible 12, at least his is my average. Loads and bullet size does make a difference.

Example: On one of my 308's, I was shooting with a very HOT powder load pushing Berger 190's. Avg brass life was 7, maybe 8. I have a tool that shrinks the primer pocket that will get you an extra few shots out of the brass!

FWIW, Dennis

Was this meant as a funny, or do you have such a tool?
Thanks,
