6.5x47 Lapua, Beanland

I’ve had a few inquiries via pm and decided to take the time to post a few specs and photos of my new 6.5x47.

The rifle was built by Jon Beanland of Gould, OK, who most of you have probably heard of before. Jon has been building my rifles for a couple of years now, and I’ve got to say that his work is second to none I’ve owned, and his attention to detail definitely exceeds that of any rifle maker whose work I’ve owned or encountered. Quite literally, his work has made me a better rifleman, as I’ve had to work hard to learn to shoot as well as I feel these rifles are capable of. I hope you enjoy the photos, and I’ll be adding to the thread as load work progresses.

Very nice! I just got back from shooting another one of his 6.5x47's. Hands down the best rifle that I have ever owned. Stupidly accurate for a 7lb hunting rifle.

Wow that’s a beauty. I’ve got 2 6.5x47’s. Become my favourite practice and hunting round. I shoot 130 Berger hunting and 130 Accubond. What bullet are you using?

I just tried the 140 Elite Hunters, but it’s looking like another barrel that prefers the 130 AR Hybrid. I like it better than the VLD for both hunting and steel.

Very, very nice! I sure like the tl3 action.

I am looking forward to hunting the 130 hvld this weekend. Finally figured out that the rifle preferred a stiff load of Varget with the 130. 2840fps and a fairly frangible bullet ought to work out to 500y on whitetail.

It’ll work farther than that.

Maybe I missed it but how long is the barrel minus the brake? I am waiting om a stock from McM for my 6.5x47. Love the looks of your rifle.

22”, that’s about as long as I like to go. I considered a 24 this time, but 22” seems plenty to get me to 1200, which is as far as I have to shoot.

I’ve got a 6.5 Creedmoor Jon put together for me this summer. His work is the best I’ve seen and the way my rifle shoots reflects that. Very 1st group I shot put 5 shots into .392” with the cheap Hornady American Gunner Ammo. During a pressure work up with Varget and 130gr AR Hybrids, ten shots of ten different charges with .4gr between charges went into one ragged hole, pictured below.

I think a person would have to look for a VERY long time before he found a ‘smith that makes a better rifle than Jon Beanland.

We may need to quit bragging about our gunsmith. 3 month turnaround could turn into 3 year turnaround. We might want to consider writing some fake news about Jon to even out all of the positive press.

I was planning to do 22” on mine. Jon recommended 24”. This is how a guy ends up with a 23” barrel. I must admit that 23” balances perfectly on this rifle.

Now that you showed us that pretty rifle, don’t leave us hanging!
Let’s hear the build specs on it.

Everyone that wants to rag on the Creedmoor, read what he said. It’s inherently accurate, and if you don’t feel like loading you can go buy a dollar a round cartridge and shoot in the .3’s.
