My front bag isn't level

My new Sinclair rest has a built in level. My scope has a level. It's impossible to get them level at the same time. Not even close, at least 10 degrees off.

I think it's the bag. Protektor 3" with slick silver material.

Do I try to re-shape the bag?
Shim one end?
Other?

How important is each layer being level? Will it cost points or just a sloppy way to do things?

I’ve used door shims cut to size as a tapered shim. As nice as all the bag makers make bags, I’ve seen very few that was dead flat.

Beat it into submission by placing a piece of wood cut to fit the forend width & beat it into submission with a hammer.

Use a bag leveling block and small hammer. If the fill tab is underneath you can put a quarter under the other side to get it straighter

That's what I do. Beat it up. Its simple and it works.
Don't overthink this stuff remember this - a Great Man told me this K.I.S.S. works every time.

Its doesnt need to be level. Just the same shot to shot, unless the gun really twists in the bags you'll be fine. Level matters when the first shot has to count. A little bit of cant wont hurt you if you have sighters.

It’s one of those personal preference kinda things, but I like bags on the softer side. My thinking is that lets the bags conform to the stock. I also don’t tighten the front bag down too much, just enough to get rid of lateral movement.

Yep too much sand. Use play sand or paver sand- no heavy sand

I bought it filled. I didn't get heavy sand.

They put extra in there to fit any situation. Pour some out until its fluffy

If you take some out. save it you can always put it back.
It the bad is to packed with sand the foreend will bounce and throw you off.

Do not be afraid to experiment. I know of a couple 1k agg records shot with heavy sand in the front bag. There are no rules here.

As others said, it doesn't have to be prefect. You don't want it all wonky so you can't get it set up the same every time, but you don't need those levels. That's what sighters are for.

10 degrees is a lot, though. Is something else off?

seriously, the block and adjusting the sand is the answer. Look around at a match to see guys with blocks lashed into their setups.
