HELP for rifle build

As it looks Im going to put my XP-100 custom specialty handgun up for sale as its not working for my intended purposes.

Im wanting a deer blind gun, lighter, short, easy to manuver around... Most of my rifles are too dang heavy and long. (18lbs and up, 28+ inch barrels...)

Shortest legal barrel - 18 inches? Thought about a 1.25 straight at 18 or so.. put any weight into the barrel.
Jewell trigger
A custom action
Stock wise, I dont know yet... leaning towards a chassis as I dont have any chassis rifles and the aluminum stock seems like itd cut weight...
Maybe single shot... im not sold on repeaters much anymore...

Whats yalls opinions?

If weight is a concern, a big block of machined aluminum isn't the best choice. Carbon fiber stock will cut the most weight. So will a carbon wrapped barrel. Can have as heavy or long a barrel as you want in CF and it will still weigh less than a heavy 18" all steel barrel.

Any good custom action will make for a nice deer blind rifle. For single shot, left load port on a right bolt sure makes things a lot faster and easier. Again considering weight, titanium will cut a lot more weight than stainless or CM.

I have several lever guns and they also get my vote. If you want to drop a deer without making hamburger try a 45-70 at 13-1400 fps. They are not running away.

I have a Ruger #1 and it’s a nice small handy rifle. Mine reminds me of my B.B. gun when I was a kid. I’m the last guy to talk someone out of building a new gun. How ‘bout an Eliseo with an 18” HV in 308? I bought an Eliseo because “I always wanted one”. It’s different! I’m really a wood guy.:)

My Kansas deer rifle is a Rem 700 SA, 18" Rem varmint barrel. Threaded for suppressor in a McMillian M-40 stock. .308 Shoot 165 Nosler Accubonds .
this is a light handy rifle for shooting out of a Bale blind. Shoot Deer 50-150 yds. Most DRT.

Well I am putting together a 6.5 (something-moor) with a light weight Shilen Match select barrel. Remington action and Boyds Light weight thumbhole stock. You might want to try something like it.

If you want to go custom the options are obviously endless, if it was me I would get ma a 20" Howa 6.5 grendel.
Spend some money on a nice stock and trigger or good trigger job and off you go hunting

I would go a Manners EH series carbon fiber or T5A elite carbon fiber stock, remember if your hunting a blind, you are probably hunting some pretty cold weather and a chassis is going to be very cold, the CF stock will be more user friendly from a blind. What distances are you shooting and what size deer? a 20" Bartlett 3b or Kreiger #5 would have a little weight but still be handy or bump up to Rem Varmint.

You're way overthinking this...Savage Hog Hunter in 308 Win., 2-7 Leupold, 150 to 165 grain bullet of your choice at 2700 to 2800fps and go forth and slay deer. Short, fairly light, handy in a blind and will get the job done.

I don't think there's any overthinking going on. Nothing wrong with carefully calculating and weighing options on a custom hunting rifle for any purposes. Once you own customs, it's hard to have anything else.

Theres no factory trigger out there that will match the crisp repeatable pull of a Jewell or B&A. Cant get a wildcat chamber in a factory rifle either. Customs give you an open book on stock choices, open book on barrel length/contour/twist rate and much smoother bolt cycling while maintaining proper ignition on trigger timing. The list goes on...

I say carry on with your custom build Sniper338.

For carbon stocks, I really like AG composites. One of the lightest and strongest CF stocks available and the best warranty I've ever seen from a stock maker. Will back you 100% even on normal wear and tear. Owned and built by Veterans in the USA :)

Get a Ruger American youth model,I have one in .223 and I use the 62gr Barnes triple shocks and it simply kills and you can maneuver around pretty good with it.
