6XC Savage Pre fit

Anyone on here have experience with either the Criterion or Shilen prefit barrels from Northland Shooter Supply.
This will be my fit dive into a non factory barrel .
What die set worked best and of course accuracy.
Will be using it to 1k for steel silhouete at Ridgway Pa and am currently shooting a 243 win with a 26 inch tube 9.25 twist with 95 berger vld.

Both barrels are very nice. I have had both and both have shot extremely well. Whatever one you get will accomplish your goals. I would opt for the one that offers a 7 or 7.5 twist to better utilize the heavier bullets. The 105gr Berger Hybrids and new 110 Sierras have been solid performers for me in the 6XC.

I know you didn't ask but, I have had real good luck with Pac Nor prefits lately.

I have a 223 drop in Shilen from Nothlands in a 7 twist. Dropped right in for my friend who is a machinist. I would recommend it without reservation. They are up front re: cost, shipping and suggest add ons like new barrel nut.

I have the criterion 6xc, threaded 24" 7.5 twist, not one they had ready on the shelf so it took 4 months but Im pleased with it. Shoots the 105 rdfs well enough that Ive never had to look into another bullet

I guess my main concern is chambering as the whole 6xc vs 6xc deal . NSS said thier Criterion barrels have a .105 free bore. I'm just trying to spend what money I have to invest as wisely as possible. I know that last statement is so wrong !!!!

Here is a print from NSS of the criterion 6xc chamber, it falls in the 6xcII camp with its wider .470 base diameter so you shouldnt have any issues with any brass.

As far as dies go I use forster but I have come to hate the forster seating die stem so I would recommend the redding or tubb dies now. The forster sizer is just fine though. The seater stem just seems to flare and eventually pop but thats not a 6xc die specific thing, the forster stems are all kind of shitty.

So in looking at that reamer print I would need a set of 6xc2 dies or send a fired case to one of the die makers ?

It’s hard to err when the die maker is working from your cases fired in your chamber.

NSS is a stand up company imo. I have only used them once as did one of my best friends shortly after. I purchased a shilen for a savage and he a criterion for a Remington. Service for he and I was outstanding. Both shoot great. I think both shilen and criterion will serve you well
