Shipping non FFL?

Im thinking of selling a rifle here. How does it work sending a rifle from a non FFL to an FFL? What do i need to know? Thank you. E

It's legal to send as long as it goes to a FFL. USPS will take it. Some clerks at USPS don't know the laws and may reject it, but just ask for a supervisor. Be sure to make arrangements with the FFL that will be receiving it before hand. Some FFLs won't accept shipments from a non FFL.

You need to find out if the receiving FFL will accept your package. Some do, some don't. Some states allow it and some states don't.

i send them quite often. usps is the best way. ups stores will not.shop gun parts but if you take it to the main ups store they will take it.

i get.a.copy of the FFL from the guy i am shipping to and put a copy inside the package. i don't put anything on the outside of the package about it being a firearm. a fragile sticker is a good idea. i put the rifle inside a cheap gun case then wrap the gun case with lots of bubble wrap and box it up using lots of shipping tape.

Usps won't even ask what is in the box. they will just ask how much you want to insure it for.

Some don't? Never heard of that .
Be patient, it'll come, lol I made a CA sale, I recall my FFL needed a CA certification to ship, no huge deal.
I dropped a sale to a guy in FL over this too, I blew a fuse when a LGS ceased communication with me because I was not an FFL holder. Refunded the buyers coin.

That about covers it all!!

I know some FFL holders won't accept from a non FFL. I've heard because they suspect it could be stolen??? My take is... There are definitely some uninformed FFL's out there, but I didn't know that about Hawaii Dave. I reckon that's why some sellers are only willing to sell to the conus . CA is one I'd considered that might not let you ship one.

I bought a stock from San Diego this past spring, and the post office would not let the guy ship it. He told them it's legal, it's not even a gun. They said no. He said it's legal to ship from everywhere, they said " Well you're not shipping it here" and escorted him to the door. Guy ended up using a shipping service, and paying twice the rate...

He didn't have to disclose the contents of the box.

Most that I know don't. Their choice and they don't want to deal with non-FFL's that forget to put a copy of their DL in the package. Makes for extra work on their part.

I always list my complete information on the DL copy, and who is buying the firearm I am shipping. I include their name, address, phone number and email address. Just makes it easier for them to contact the person using them to do the transfer.

Some FFL's will not send their license to a non-FFL. And the non-FFL is NOT required to have the FFL in their hands to ship. They are only required to ship the firearm to an FFL. Ask for the first 3 numbers and last 5 numbers on their license and put it in EZ Check.

That said, my local UPS hub requires I provide them with a paper copy of the FFL when I am using them to ship a firearm.

And realize if you were shipping a handgun you can only ship it UPS or Fedex, and both require it to be shipped overnight.

Handguns have to go FFL to FFL.

What's your point? I never said there weren't. My first post was referring to states that didn't allow it. It being shipping a long gun without an FFL.

I guess I get an F on reading comprehension on that one. It happens to the best of us at times. Definitely didn’t mean to ruffle you jimmies.
