has anyone made a tool to remove a head separated case from chambers
I removed a "stuck" case from a rifle barrel that had been fired with a load of pistol powder. A lot of things didn't like the outcome. I removed the barrel, drilled & tapped the flash hole to 1/4-20, put a socket over it that fit the barrel diameter, a couple washers & a full thread bolt. A few turns with the barrel in a vise popped it out.has anyone made a tool to remove a head separated case from chambers

What type of rifle , bolt , auto ,lever ? What cartridge ? Headless military case removers work pretty well . If past that use a brush in the case and block the bore and pour some cerrosafe in it . It'll harden and should come out with the rod .has anyone made a tool to remove a head separated case from chambers
Savage has had problems in the past with sticking cases in the chamber. It is easy to get the case out but, there could be other problems. First thing to do is contact Savage. Jeff
Since it's a limited use military cartridge , I'd say you'd have to modify or have one made .338lm and where would I find military case removers brush didn't work got brush stuck haha
I tapped the brass brush that was stuck and the case came out was going to use a 3/8 tap but didn't need to thanks for all the helpSince it's a limited use military cartridge , I'd say you'd have to modify or have one made .
Did you use cerrosafe ?
I think bad caseCase head separation with a .338 LM would get my attention.
Were you able to determine the cause?
........ SNIP............Did you use cerrosafe ?
I guess were just old and used text books !I'm surprised so few people know about this procedure. Usually you can tap out an intact case without any problem. But if the case seperates, removing the stuck half is significantly more difficult in some cases.
If you have a stuck case caused by case separation, sometimes they shake out and sometimes one of those commercial case extractors will grab it, but only if it's not really stuck hard. Inserting a screw strikes me as a good way to nick your chamber and I don't like that idea, especially when the Cerrosafe method is so easy.
Do some measuring so you know where your neck is and mark your cleaning rod. Shove a double patch down the muzzle and stop forward of the neck about 1/4 inch.
Now secure your rifle muzzle down and heat up some Cerrosafe in a little ladle; a heat gun will do. You don't need a torch. Then pour the liquid metal into the chamber and let it solidify. Don't spill any on your toes.
Refer to the directions about the wait time for the material to shrink; it's a few minutes but I forget how many. Anyhow, it first shrinks and then over a longer period of time, several hours, it will expand back to the shape of the chamber.
Put a rod down the muzzle and tap the slug of casting metal out along with the broken/stuck case. Simple and safe and it will extract a separated case when no other method will work.
