22 Dasher Short Action Customs

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to share my results so far with my 22 Dasher.

Rifle Specs: Built by Short Action Customs
Action- American Rifle Company Mausingfield
Barrel- 23" Hawk Hill 7tw M40
Trigger- TriggerTech Diamond
Scope- Kahles K525i

I've been using redding f/l bushing dies (.247 bushing) with the expander ball while converting from 6mm to .224 in fireforming.

I've been working with the 95smk's, varget, and cci450's. Results so far are 1/4"-1/2" groups with single digit SD's. 32gr of varget and jammed 5 thousandths is producing the best results of 1/4" groups and 3050fps with 110rds down the barrel.

The b.c of the 95smk is slightly understated. I'm running .312 g7 in my kestrel and it is matching up perfectly. The 3 shot group on steel is at 750yds. Plenty of energy on steel with these little guys and ballistics are in line/slightly better than my 6x47L with less recoil.

I'm pretty excited with how its shooting during fireforming and will update once I get more rounds down the barrel to see how it performs. Will keep an eye on how the 95smks perform as 110smks have been finiky and these have similar design.

Outstanding report and perfect timing, for me. I am building a 22 dasher as soon as my bbl comes in. I ageee fully with the underestimate on the BC value as I am also using higher numbers to get my sterlok to work out with the 95s.

Please keep posting or PMing me results if you would.

How's the feeding going? What mags, alterations, and do you use mag kit's?

This is a cool thing, something I'm interested in do as well.

No issues with feeding. The control round feed of the Mausingfield snaps the small case up right away. I do make sure to give my mags a couple taps so the rounds are aligned/all the way back in the mag before use.

My go-to is a 6x47 right now in a Mausingfield, it feeds perfectly but I took a 10th of an inch off the front of the mag lips.

What do you estimate barrel life to be?

Would you go into a little detail on the reamer and dies please.

The Reamor is .252" neck and .125" freebore. I think my next barrel will be a slightly longer freebore.
Dies are just Dasher f/l bushing die. I ordered the 223 vld seating stem and replaced the 6mm seating stem.

I don't know how thick the necks are on my brass and don't have the correct tool to give you an accurate measure

The neck thickness must be less than .014" or you wouldn't be getting any expansion.

Anybody reading this, can you tell me what Lapua necks measure please?

Got an estimate what freebore you'd do?

Looks good. I'm thinking about a similar setup but possible 22BR (deciding on that or 22 Dasher). I also have a 525i that I've spent a little time behind. Really like your setup... Several questions:

What loads (& speeds) are you fireforming with? I assume the 32gr Varget, 3050 load is formed? I have a buddy shooting 22Creed with the 95s with great results also.

In the picture it looks like you have the 88gr ELD's loaded. How are they preforming against the new sierra?

I am running 31gr jammed with the fireforming. Speeds were 2990. I did shoot 10 88's at 100yds to check speeds and accuracy. They shoot great and speeds are very achieveable. I ran them up to 3120 with no issues. When comparing the ballistics though between the 88's and 95's, I would have to run the 88's almost 150fps faster to get the same wind ballistics when running the 95's between 3030-3050. They are although, almost half the price and still have a better bc than 105 hybrids. They are a "fall back to" bullet if things don't work out with the 95's.

Good to hear......

I am on my way back from an Axis hunt in Texas and I used a 22 BR improved .050 with the 88 ELD @ 3050fps. Shot was 247 yards and that bullet did everything I figured it would. They are a kin to the Amax for on game performance. Deer went about 30 yards after impact and it was over.

For the money the 88 ELDs are shooting great for me and give a dual purpose option I doubt I would try with the Bergers or SMKs. I have shot them up to 3200 fps now in other calibers and they seem to be easy to get to shoot well.

Again. Please add to this thread as much as you are able as the 22 dasher is my next project.

What powder are you running with those 88's?

Barrel length?

Will keep this updated. I plan to shoot this caliber at the Precision Rifle Series GAP Grind. Will have more info towards end of Sept. Gotta have it ready to compete against @dcnyli

With the 88's I am running AA2700 with a max charge about 31.5-32 gr. Again this is with a 22 BR improved .050 and your gun may be different. Bbl length is 24" and this bbl is slowish.

I also worked through the 95 SMK with N160 and the max load was about the same at 31.5-32.0gr.

All the above was with a 24" Kreiger 7 twist. Both powders were chosen due to the lower burn temps. Most loads tried with both powders and bullet weights were single digit ES. I don't feel this to be the powder as much as the cartridge design.
