FT/R Stock---In Need of Suggestions

I regret my compromise build.
-
So much time & nuance goes into getting these complex systems to perform at the highest levels.
Leave no stone unturned. The stock is your user interface.
Half measures will leave you wondering: "what if?"
If I shoot a 9, I want it to be all my fault.
If I change one variable, I want to see the effect.
The real challenge lies in discerning your personal preferences among a panoply of competitive options.

I have a Mcmillan XIT but my next stock will be a Cerus FTR. I got to see a few of the Cerus stocks in person at the Canadian Nationals and they are beautiful. If you go with a Cerus have KW Precision build it, it will look amazing

Panapoly, great word choice. I, sir, applaud you!

I'll be doing the metal work on the build, but I would consider having KW inlet the stock for me. I think Keith's work (@Cigarcop ) is some of the best I've ever seen. I have a buddy with a couple of his rifles and they are beautiful.
The worst part about Cerus stocks is their website. It's awful. At least on my computer. I wouldn't hold it against them tho. If that's my biggest complaint about their stuff, that's not awful.

Bully,

Best thing you could probably do is try to get behind a few different stocks/chassis if you can and see what feels best for you. Any of the stocks/chassis in this thread will work if all the other components of the build are good and done right. Everyone will give their opinion on whats the "best" but fact of the matter is that it's all personal preference, simple as that. I've had several differents stocks/custom actions/barrels etc. and they all hit where i'm aiming if i do my part.

I think this is excellent advise. as i showed in my post, i use the XLR chassis 'cause it works for me. i would love to have Cerus stock/rifle made up by Cigarcop, but i can't justify the cost at this point with my current setup shooting so well. i i shoot on an F/TR team that went to the Worlds. everyone on the team shot well. my team mates have very expensive Speedy built rifles with beautiful laminate stocks. they did not shoot any better than my chassis setup did.

I have a match this weekend. I am going to try and convince a couple of guys to allow just that.

If you want to get a hold of Cerus just text Will he will get back to you when he has time. That's what I did when I had some questions

So I shot a match today at Cumberland Rifleman's in NJ today. Did pretty well, for me.
I also got to handle the XiT. I like it a bunch. If No one can convince me otherwise I'll probably be calling @BLCKWLF tomorrow or tuesday to start the process for one of my own.

So glad I was shooting a McMillan XIT today. I got so wet from the rain that I poured water out of the barrel channel and scope hood. No worries, carbon fiber and fiberglass are not afraid of water!

Great shooting today Jen.

How did you do?
What is your set up (action/barrel contour&length/glass?)
What do you like about it so much?
Are you sponsored by them?

At 1000 yards shot a 595-20x. Got 2nd overall, beat by 3Xs
I shoot a McMillan XIT, Stiller Predator, Krieger heavy varmint barrel, 31” with a NF competition scope. I use Lapua palma brass and Berger 200 gr hybrids.

I worked very hard to earn my sponsors and yes I am sponsored by these companies now except for Nightforce. I was shooting this equipment by choice prior to my sponsorships.

The XIT stock is built with different angles to allow a shooter to be better aligned with the barreled action and scope. Shooters were and still are involved in the design and improvement of the McMillan stocks. There are many options available with McMillan to customize the stock including placement of the action to accomodate smaller framed people.

Thank you for your candid response. I appreciate it more than you can know.

You are welcome. PM me on facebook anytime and I will be happy to help. There are many options and the RAD recoil system is one of them. I struggled quite a bit getting it set for me and it showed in my scores. I dont want anyone to go through that struggle so I will be glad to help anyone get that worked out. Its a very personalized system.

We have an all female FTR team that has been graciously sponsored. Check us out on fb.

X-it Strategy.

We had the name before our sponsorship by McMillan

Need to add
I shoot a Duplin bipod to keep weight down. My entire rig is 17 3/4 lbs.

Bully,

I'm currently running a MPA hybrid chassis in FTR. It's their new chassis they came out with in the last year or so. MPA is very well known on the PRS circuit for their chassis. They made a couple modifications to their light chassis model. The hybrid has a 3 inch longer forend, 6 inch aluminum bag rider (mine doesn't have any angle to it but they may be able to modify it), low profile forend design, etc. cheek piece and butt are adjustable with set screws, not thumb wheel. There are also weights they can add in the forend and butt to make it heavier if you are under weight and want to get closer to the weight limit. Mine weighs 4 lb. 3 oz with moulded rubber vertical grip. They also make another grip that is 3 oz lighter if you need the weight savings. I was skeptical at first about trying this chassis after shooting wood stocks in FTR for years with great success but after trying it i really like it. The chassis feels solid when shooting, it doesn't have a ping/ringing feel to it like i thought it would being aluminum. I had this particular action/barrel in my Doan Trevor custom maple stock and it shot great. I took it out of the stock and bolted it in the chassis without skim bedding etc. Rezeroed the scope at 100 yards then proceeded to shoot a very tight group at 300 yards off the bipod in the chassis with the same load. I've since then shot it at 1000 yards in a few matches and it shoots just as good as it did in the Doan Trevor stock. I will shoot it in Raton next month at Nationals if anyone is interested in taking a look at it. If this is something you might be interested in give Al Olivier a call at MPA and he'd be more than happy to talk to you about it and answer your questions.

Here's my setup with the chassis to give you a idea of what you're looking at for weight.

MPA Hybrid chassis (4 lb. 3 oz)
Borden Rimrock SSR action (single shot)
30 inch Bartlein 5R heavy varmint contour barrel (5 inch 1.25 X .900 at crown)
NF Benchrest scope w/sunshade and Dan Pohlabel mirage cap (very heavy scope)
Jewel trigger
Flex bipod with picatinny attachment
Mirage shield

Total weight with all components 17 lb. 13 oz

There are a lot of good options out there as everyone has mentioned in this thread. This is just another one to consider.

Outstanding shooting Jenn!
