Getting a “doughnut” neck sizing 22 creedmoor

I think I’m getting a doughnut inside my 22 creedmoor Brass after necking it down from 6mm creedmoor. The bullet seems to start smooth then builds a lot of resistance while seating then it “pops” through and is easy again. Will this go away after the first firing? I am thinking I should get an inside neck reamer and cut the cases before loading them. I think this is giving me erratic neck tension as some bullets seat with a very different feel than others. Is there anyone that makes an inside neck reamer that is intended to be used in “unfired” cases? I really think this doughnut is going to mess up my load development. I’d rather trim all the necks before waisting my time, Reloading components, and barrel life shooting all this new brass just to be able to run the neck reamer...

Tim, never did much inside neck turning but I do have a 6mm inside cutter for my Forester trimmer if you want to try it you're welcome to borrow it. Maybe if you take a little off before you neck them down they will form better.

Before reaming, the necks need to be uniform. All the same outside diameters. https://www.forsterproducts.com/pro...se-conditioning-tools/case-neck/neck-reamers/

A little is removed from the inside by reaming. Then the neck is expanded and outside neck turned to the final outside diameter.

You do not have a donut till neck wall thickness is measured first. And the problem, if any is identified.

With a bullet seated, measure the out side diameter of the necks. Near mouth and back near shoulder. Are the measurement around .254" at both? Or is near shoulder a lot larger in diameter?

The loaded rounds neck diameter has to be smaller then the chamber by .002" or more for safety.

From link- https://www.primalrights.com/library/cartridge-guides/22-creedmoor
"Neck diameter .254" (loaded) ??

I don"t have or load for a 22 creedmoor.

Just push the donut to the outside of the neck with a mandrel and turn it off. OR, use shorter bullets. A BT will fit above the donut in lots of cases.

I’ve been in these exact shoes(almost, 22x47).... just shoot them once and they’ll be fine. Trim after the second firing.

There’s really no need for anything else. My rifle shot .3s consistently then dropped down in the high .1 low .2 after I had a firing or two on them.

What size bushing are you using to neck down? If you are using less than a .250 that could be part of your problem.

I’m using the new Gunwerks 6creed Brass. Alpha had been out of stock and I didn’t want to wait. I’m using a .252 bushing

Well, then, I would suggest you run the brass through an expander mandrel. I think that would take care of it. I've just started working up loads for my 22 Creedmoor but, never ran into the problem your having. If you decide to go with the expander, don't forget the lube on the inside of the case before expanding.
