Dry firing and snap caps

I'd like to not only practice dry fire but operating the bolt too. 13 bucks for two snap caps plus shipping. Ouch! I have loads of old brass and bullets. Any DIY ideas. 6.5 cm. Thanx Mike

Make your own. Like stated above mark them. I like drilling holes in them so there is no getting live ammo in the mix

I made dummy rounds. Green magic marker on the bullet tips. Shot hot glue into the primer pocket, let it harden for a day, and shaved it flush with a razor knife. They work. The OTC snap caps for my 308 won't consistently extract and eject.

Yeh, making dummies easy. Having something for the firing pin to strike repeatedly, not easy. Hot glue sounds ok. Maybe. How do you feel about pin striking on nothing?

If the firing pin is striking nothing, there's no reason to have anything in the chamber at all.

How many trigger pulls do you think that might take????
A chit load but I have been told by a very well known smith it can and will happen. I understand where you are coming from I rolled my eyes to when he told me that.I say do what makes you feel comfortable and roll with it.

Guess that's rather obvious, but how do you feel about the pin falling on a chamber with nothing at all.
I just use the [metal] snap caps. They may be pricey, but last a while so you don't need to buy a whole bunch of them.

They're not even needed for a lot of (most?) rimfires. If the pin doesn't hit the chamber, you don't have a problem.
