Ned, to your line of question, indeed even the ultrahigh BC195’s are hard put to achieve “match” world advantages over the 180’s. Weight, pressure on brass, barrel wear considerations, potential unwrapping in flight, these all combine to keep MV near the drift envelope of 180’s, at least assuming you have a shred of attachment to your barrel and brass. I would surmise the 184’s will have an even harder time separating themselves than 195’s. But Larry and some others have mentioned potentially tighter groups, and that sure matters.

This isn’t about 195’s, but I sure enjoyed my time with those and would welcome a vetted yellow box match version. They ship with gorgeous points. A friend has “lost” some of them in match conditions. If they were proofed up by Berger for really hot barells, so that we didn’t have to worry about that, then brass and barrels be damned, - I for one would convert.

Haha, the “friend” category losing bullets does include me, too. We’ve collectively lost several flavors of 7mm’s. Not a 195 though, that friend nice enough to run the traps with the 195’s was Joe Regina. I it was at Berger too lol.

184 Berger HYBRID F OPEN groups at 1,000 yards:

BEST GROUP: 0.37 MOA (3.87” group) at 1,000 yards with H4831sc at 2,775 FPS muzzle velocity with 5 thousand jump.

Similar (but a little looser groups) from
- additional bullet seating depths
- additional other powders/charges.

184 Hybrid bullets with H4350 delivering 0.40 MOA group
180 Hybrid bullets with H4831sc delivering > 0.50 MOA group

300 yard results: UPDATE on BERGER 184 F-OPEN Hybrids versus original BERGER 180 hybrids at 300 yard grouping:

Conditions:
Shot both buklets at 300 yards at same outing. Shot some of the better loads from the 100 yard results and shot them against the “control” group ... of this rifle’s original 180 hybrid optimal load. Conditions were a variable wind at the back switching from 5 o’clock to 7 o’clock..... bad mirage, mid afternoon with high temperature (99F) shooting 5 shot groups at 300 yards. Shot multiple 5 round groups on each load recipe for additional validation and control. Less than ideal conditions for 300 yard detail control, as I would have preferred a good still no wind morning condition.

Summary:

• BERGER 184 hybrid with 53.4 gr H4831sc shot 0.24 MOA groups (0.762” group) 5 shot groups. Velocity: 2,779 FPS
• BERGER 180 hybrid with 53.6 gr H4831sc shot 0.408 MOA Groups (1.281” group) 5 shot groups. velocity: 2,800 FPS (this was the control group)

Shot additional loads faster than this ... and additional loads slower than this (down to 2,675 FPS).... but in the end, the optimal load taken from the 100 yard results came out again to be the best at 300 yards (of course the is a little more going on with the wind here) ....

Cheers for the writeup Montana. It's likely to be a long time before these ever land in Australia as Berger are WAYYYY behind on shipments to Australia, so I'll be sticking with 180s for awhile yet but good to see that these look promising.

Hi Montana, no mate, we're just about screwed over here as far as Berger bullets go. There are still a few .30cal bullet options available, but as far as 6mm, 6.5mm and 7mm Berger bullets go, both local suppliers are pretty much out of stock. The Berger factory relocation really played havoc over here with both suppliers having multiple orders placed, but no incoming shipments coming for some time still. I've got enough 180gr VLDs to see me through the next 12 months, but I have gone over to 105gr 6mm Lapua Scenar L bullets for my 6BRA and plan to test those this weekend as my Berger 108gr BTs are almost gone - got about 200 left.

No idea when we will see the 184s, they have been ordered but I reckon the second half of 2019 is the probably the earliest we'll see them.

7mm RSAUM WENT BACK OUT Today. Slowed them down to 2950fps. Much better results.
Here is 3 shots at 1000 yards today. This will be my final load for up.coming nationals at Raton New Mexico

I run a 0.235 Freebore on my 180 Hybrid’s ...and also on my 184’s. The 184’s seem to like it....
3.87” group at 1,000 yards.

This was measured in a new unfired Bartlein .284 cut with .295 FB.
The brass is also unfired.

It works fine right there but I have considered sending it back to JGS and have the FB moved back to about .275

Have you shot the 184’s in your 0.295 Freebore yet? Any results?

For what its worth I have shot a little over 500 of the 184's thru a new barrel and my reamer with a .220 freebore. I am not into the donut and I am no closer to the donut than with the 180 hybrids. I think this works because the ogive is different and has a longer taper on the 184.

My 184's mic a little smaller in dia. than the 180's also. .2839 in the middle of the bearing surface and .284 at the pressure ring on the 184 VS .2841 in the middle of the bearing surface and .2842 at the pressure ring on the 180. My load and chrono data has been very close to one another with both bullets. YMMV
