Question for shooters that use a bag rider.

I am very very new to target shooting and have ask a lot of questions the last few months.
But I think good questions.
Here is one .... I bought a nice used rest with a joy stick. It came with a bigger front bag ( 3 inch wide ) and most of my rifle are hunting rifles but do shoot very good groups. I was thinking about just leaving this 3 inch wide bag on front rest and putting a bag rider on the 2 guns I will be shooting off the rest. Question can you tell me the plus and minus of doing this in my situation. I don’t think I will be doing much or any competitor shooting unless it is just at my local range 3 or 4 times a year for fun. Just want to try to shoot better groups then my old front sand bag and rifle butt on my shoulder. I shoot a cheap savage FV 12 223 and a Nicer Ruger M77 6.5 creedmoor and AR10 creedmoor. I could picture myself shooting competion 22LR when I retire in 5 years. Your thoughts on bag riders. Thanks. Marty

Bag riders work well but it also depends on how much drop the toe of the butt has. But it still helps a lot.

I've got 2 of the FV12's, don't think a bag rider, would attach to the forearm on these. I would get a Protektor bag for the rest, not much $$ for a quality item.

ok thanks for your help guys. i know it would work will on the AR10 BUT KNOW NOT SURE ON THE SAVAGE CABELAS FV 12 GUN i might be better off on buying a new front rest bag but then i have to change the darn rest bag out every time i change guns. very very tough decision. keep the opinions coming. You might think about this as an option

I have used the front bag riders on some of my rifles that have sling studs on the bottom of the front stocks. Some are able to attach and release pretty easily. I have done load development with them for more accuracy testing. And then removed them later for hunting or competition.

Yeah........ me too. I build all my competition rifles with sling stud fittings (or two depending on the forearm) so I can either screw on a standardized (for my front bag) bag rider block or a custom tripod fitting or a sling stud to fit a Sinclair type tripod. I suppose if I wanted to go hunting with a rifle I can hardly lift, I could fit a sling. You will not catch me shooting any sling class if I have to wear one of those huge straight jackets. ;)

This is one I've used. Had to modify a little to work on wood stock hunting rifles, but not too hard. You could always call Robert and ask if he has something new for a hunting rifle. Nice guy to talk to.
