Bullet Quest

My new rifle will be done soon. 6.5 creed, 26" Shilen. I don't compete and shoot mostly paper at all ranges to 1k. PRS style sort of. I'm not looking for the best bullet but the bullet that will work best in my gun. I'm not after blazing speed as I'd like my brass to last. And not roast my barrel. Are the 140s that much better than 130? I'd like to stay above the donut. How many bullets does it take to determine its the right bullet? Seating test, OCW test. I feel a real live 1/2 moa is good enough. Sure 1/4 is great but wind is my problem. I have so many questions! How do you choose a bullet for a new rifle. Mike

If it's a single shot i would suggest starting out with Lapua brass. With a repeater i might try some of the many many factory loaded offerings out there....Much of the high end factory target stuff is about the same price as "rolling your own". I was watching a guy hit steel out to 850 like he was poking at cans with a BB gun in his back yard with 6.5cm factory loaded stuff. This was a municipal SWAT friend training and getting the heart flapper on the steel much more than not. Congrats on your new gun......Should be a HOOT to shoot.

Regards
Rick

How far out you shooting ? 142 SMK and the 123 SMK and 123 Noslers have high BC's for long range. 120 and 140 SMK's along with 140 Nosler CC's have lower prices and perform well out to 800. I shoot a Remington 260 and 6.5 CM and Remington .260 have close to the same case capacity so these may work in yours

My experience is different barrels shoot better with a certain bullet.I would select the weight of bullet that you will use and buy a few boxes of different bullets. Shoot a few groups with each and then buy bullets. My BR rifle needed a barrel and I ordered 2. Chambered at the same time with the same reamer, one likes Berger Column bullets and the other Ronnie Cheek's bullets. Same brand and were rifled one after the other.
