CMP Rimfire sporter rifle/scope question

I am putting together a .22 LR for the CMP rimfire sporter game. Shooting is done at 25 and 50 yards. Looking for input on what scope to put on it. Weight will be an issue. Rifle, scope and empty magazine must weigh 7.5 lbs or less. Variable power scope is ok, it just has to include 6x.

It would be easier to give a recommendation if you would provide the weight of the rifle, magazine, and scope rings, that way it at least gives an idea of how much remaining weight you have for the scope.

having shot all the camp perry matches, save one, i have som
e questions. bolt or semi-auto? bolt go with one of the cz's. semi, i suggest a 10/22, short barrel, carbon fiber bull. scope, stay with a 1" tube rimfire model adjust parallax for the short range. i use a 2-7 leupold target dot vx-2 set at 4x. one year shot a 589 with that scope, good for 6th overall. ps i run a box stock t/c classic. gear isn't a big deal, PRACTICE IS!!!!

....Trying to decide on the scope....

I’ve often thought about doing the CMP sporter thing. My silhouette squad partner/spotter for several years won one of the senior titles (can’t remember if it was O or T) at Camp Perry a couple years back. I always thought it looked like fun.

To answer your question, if I were setting up a rifle for this discipline I would use my old Leupold M8-6X. I’d use my 50 adapter on it at 25 yards. Light and precise with an AO. If that’s not a possibility then whatever 4X, 6X, or variable I had available. The targets aren’t particularly small so as long as it holds zero, it pretty much wouldn’t concern me otherwise.

I have a BSA sweet 22 on top of my 10/22 for 25/50 yards works well, plus it will not break the bank.....I have irons on top of my AR - 22 and I can do well this this as well......you can get GI peep type sights for your 10/22 and I would encourage you to look at this option as well.....once you learn to shoot with irons, they are fun and accurate.....

I just put a Bushnell Rimfire 6x18 on a CZ 455 Varmint. Appears to be a decent scope, with side parallax adjustment, and Optics Planet had a nice price on them. It's sitting on top of a DIP 25MOA rail in case I want to "go long" with it.

Originally had a Leupold Freedom 3x9 on the rifle, but quickly realized I need to send it to Leupold for a parallax adjustment before it'll be much use for precision work at 25/50 yds.
