416 HSM and Action for ELR...

Seems like the 416 is a superior bullet ballistically speaking. I'm very familiar with the 416 Barrett. Very nice performance compared to any Cheyenne tactical cartridge or smaller 338-375. How about accuracy with all that horsepower under the bullet. That's going to be the real question. At 2 miles, HP and BC is Paramount but so is Accuracy. That's one helluva cartridge for sure. We will know with some long range testing.. In a junk

skinny barrel that we just fireform in, we got 350gr hunting

jacketed bullet over 4000. Getting the new heavy barrels put on

actions now, to test speed with heavier 420-550 gr target bullets.

Brighton, Michigan isn't a location I would consider a good one for testing a cartridge like yours. Where do you plan on stretching out and shooting that cannon ?

I live east of Brinton a little 4 corner 20 miles NW of Mt Pleasant.

Now it won't be me doing the long range testing I only do load work and chrono work., can't get around much.I just have test guns and I get safe loads and powders figured out. Few Guys doing the long range rifles will test long range accuracy. Got a real long range NE of here that Mitch and Paul use, They are East of me here in MI.

Not sure where Paul shoots other than the midland club. It has a 600 yard max range. Grayling and Missaukee have 1000 but not nearly enough to stretch out what your shooting

They had spot on land somewhere I think they got a mile, was on Mike Avery TV deal. The also shoot at a place in OH 2400 yds.Ed

Spearpoint ELR Roundup
Ride the wind in Kansas
August 11 & 12, 2018

ELR match will be held at Spearpoint Ranch near Lincoln, Ks.
Spearpoint $1000 Three Shot Challenge will be held Saturday Morning.

ELR match will have 7 steel targets from 1500 yds out to 2900 yds.
Competitors will fire 4 rounds at each target on each day for a total of 56 rounds.
Scoring will emphasize first round hits with declining point values per attempt.

Calibers up to and including .50 BMG welcome.
All shooting will be from a prone position.

Cost is $80 per shooter.
An additional $20 for those wishing to try the Spearpoint Challenge

We tested intermediate action with a 700HE barrel we had here.

Just temporary to test strength. 1000 gr over 3100..

Action worked fine.. Ed.
