Leaving powder in brass overnight

I reload when and where I can, at home, on road, in van, etc. I usually have to set up my press every time which is slightly bothersome setting the seating depth and swapping dies, it's just what I'm dealing with now as I'm just getting started. My question is one of theory I guess... Sometimes it's easy for me to load my charges into brass then seat them the following day or within 2 days tops. Is there any reason that leaving the brass open without seating a bullet could degrade my powder? I have in the past wrapped my little ammo box with charged brass with plastic wrap. Probably a dumb question but it's a concern.

i am clumsy. i would be afraid of spilling it. otherwise no problem.

now i have found that letting sized brass sit and seating bullets later sure effects neck tension.

I think you should be fine......unless......

Last year I tumbled and sized about 200 cases and left in the loading blocks on my work bench in the garage for the next stage. It seems that the same day 100,000 pantry moths decided to emerge from a new bag of bird seed my wife bought. The little buggers must have been drawn to the workbench light that stays on all the time. Needless to say there were hundreds of the dead guys all over the bench and inside cases. Had it been open powder I may have been screwed. Not really certain how they would affect things.

Anyway, I now cover all open cases with another loading block. Since you keep them covered you should be fine but it's a story I felt I'd share for those that may not cover powder and stuff.

If I do not seat projectiles in powered cases, I place a flat, light sheet of ridged plastic over them until I am ready to finish the process. I have also just charged 1 ounce medicine cups with lids and then filled and seated at the same time from those and then you can make up a lot of Jello Shots for after the shooting is over for the day!

I would like to add to his question if I could. I live in ct. it’s pretty humid right now and reload in my garage. How will humidity effect the powder sitting in the brass for a day or so?

Humidity is an environmental factor as is heat to pressure on loads. It will dampen powder but very quickly dry out once the bullet is seated. The case heats up and dries the powder that was affected by the humidity. Try loading some damp powder in a case. Let the loaded case set in the warmth for a few hours and pull the bullet. You'll see how powder will be dry again.

I too use corrigated plastic to cover my unseated cases if left overnight. Only to keep foreign objects out.

I personally never charge case's unless I'm ready to seat bullets. Like stated above I'll cover my trickled with a piece of cardboard if leaving over nite or longer.
I like the little plastic cup with a lid idea, for having pre measured charges that are ready to travel.

Riflewoman those are pretty sweet.more durable than the lil plastic containers i was thinking of.
We used the little solo containers in our drive thru restaurant for condiments.

Side note, we made the best teriyaki plate lunch in all of Southern Oregon.
Best damn mac salad ever!!!!!
