0n my recent PD trip to NM l had a great time.. Shot my 221FB almost exclusively.
But l just want abit MORE!! Decided to send the 700ADL Varmint in 223 and the 4-14VXiii down the road.. l just hated the whole rig. Twas just so UGLY.

Anyway, a beautiful 700VLS in 22-250 has fallen out the sky.. Would just like some input on what model Leupold should put on it... Written in stone is a variable with the high end of around 20x.

Adjustable 0bjective too.. Just so many models that fall in that range VXlll, Vx6, Mark4.

thanks

Just got back from another pd mission and I am looking seriously at getting a different scope for my 22-250. I don't know what the conditions are that you shoot in, but where I go, I often have to fight the wind with shots that are typically 300-500 yds.

I am looking at the Leupold VX-3i LRP, 8.5-25x50mm, Side Focus, MIL, FFP

I like side focus so you don't have to reach up to the front of the scope. The MIL system is in .5 mil hash marks. (the dots in most scopes are too far apart and too large for accurate hold off). It is a FFP scope so you don't have to establish a power setting that matches your hold off. For instance, I was using 2.5 dots up and to the left at 20 power on my SFP scope. If I changed the power setting for a close shot, or to find a particular pd, I had to remember to go back to 20 power before shooting at the longer ranges. Too tedious.

Let us know what you get and how you like it.

Your choice, and Leupold "used" to be my favorite varmint scope. To me it is less about the name on the scope and more about features. I do see that Leupold has expanded their reticle choices, which helps. And I am far less impressed with the new VX-3i than I was the LR target VX-3. But what I must have:
- side parallax adjustment
- clear optics (large objective isn't a must since the lighting is normally very good)
- a reticle that gives me the fine hold adjustments I use

I was really excited when I first started using the Leupold Varmint Hunter reticle as it was a big improvement over the fine Duplex. But there are much better options out there. I don't shoot the distances you do, but I deal with the wind every day. Just to give you a couple of pics to show the difference:

Leupold Mk4 6.5-20 x 40 is my favorite. I don't like a reticle that is too busy. I turn the knobs for distance and sometimes windage.

Plus 1 on vx111 6.5-20x50, have one on my 22-250, the 40mm version on my ar, have a 8.5x25x50 coming for 6br. All have varmint reticle, they just work. Prairie dogs are all I use these rifles for.

I have one of each on my 2- AI 22-250's Varmint Hunter Reticle on both. The bug is bad here. 2-250's ,2-AI. 7 grandkids.
Might need another one soon. Don't squash the bug. Very versatile caliber.

I have two Leupold 6.5x20x50's with the varmint reticle which work very well using the reticle or turning the knobs.
These are on my 20 practicals now...a few years ago I put a Sightron 10x50x60 moar on my 22-250. I have been enjoying
the challenge of hitting the P-dogs way out there and will say that Leupold and Sightron have been very good for rat shooting.
With the quality scopes that are made today it's hard to choose which one to go with...:D

If you want a little more, then go to a Swift or something a little more exotic. You will like a 22-250. One of my favorite p-dog guns over the years. Two is always better than one and you will likely figure that out.

I use quite a number of the Leupold 6.5-20 or bigger. I'm not a "dialer" so I like the reticles that give you the adjustments for holdover and windage. The varmint Hunter is a good option. Side focus is really nice. The rest of the bells and whistles is personal preference.

Equipment update on 22-250 700VLS.. Gun finally arrived at Jarrett Rifles in Jackson SC. Jay Jarrett said the trigger/safety is NOT broken.. Seems the previous owner improperly installed it... BIG plus... Trigger in the gun is a JEWELL trigger!!
Never owned a Jewell trigger before... He did say l needed to get rid of the 'J' lock on it tho.
Found a LeupoldVXlll 6.5-20x40 on Gunbroken..Used w/fine crosshairs... Has a Premier reticle installed... Has 5 vertical dots and a 223 wheel set up for 55gr Nosler BTs @3240fps... Dots are not too big.. I will just zero it @ 200yd for my favourite Prairie boolit (40gr Nosler BT) and LEAVE it there... Been shooten pds since 1991.. Learned on my first PD shoot... Don't Touch That Dial...

Another vote for the vx3, 6.5-20x50 with fine duplex, had one on a 243 varmint rifle.. clear glass and the fine duplex rarely got in the way..
