If you get a single digit ES you are going to have a good single digit SD.

I treat all my new brass just like fired brass with exception of cleaning before sizing. I have a turned neck chamber so its necessary. Then I shoot a fire form load at matches until its all done.

ES is very important but I also don't shoot a string of 20 with my Labradar so I basically just look at SD stats after a match. But what the SMT targets I post tell me is that my ES is likely very low too. Look at my 199. My ES is 30 over 20 shots and that's only because one was clearly an outlier. This data is as the bullet crosses the SMTs 300yrd down range. Lots of things happen in 300yrds that can affect velocity so if I'm getting 30ES at 300 I know I'm sitting good at MV which is what most people base their numbers on. I know from experience that my ES basically doubles when I look at my Labradar readings comparing MV to 100yrd.

I posted these pics simply as proof that I can get low SD at 300yrd loading the way I load. Now if I can learn to read the wind and pull the trigger and fight the rain all at once I'd be happy.

These pics are from a 3x300 match using all brand new Lapau brass. Notice the SDs and average velocities for each 20 shot group. This is why I prep the way I do. Again, not for everyone but works for me.

That is some great shooting but I am not sure how much velocity consistency comes into play until you start stretching it out to 500 or so

I have no idea of what the velocity stats are of the rounds used in these two groups. It is a 300 yard load at this time, and has only been seating depth tuned. I have yet to even bother firing over the chrono because it is only used for 300 yard practice. I do know that if I ever want to shoot that load at 600 or 800 I will have to see if the SD and ES are low but for 300 I really don't care

edited to add second group. I was using a target cam and called the low flyer before I took my eye away from scope. I fired early. It was not the ammo or gun it was the shooter

I guess, I have to do it the way I find the best (or believe its the best). FL sizing with previously established shoulder bump, then open neck ID with my homemade Expander die and expander mandrel (0.001 under bullet diameter) trim and chamfer. Load and shoot. I dont need to turn necks because my chamber is not that tight, and expander mandrel will push out all inconsistencies.
Also, I am considering using graphit flakes as dry neck lube (I cant purchase Imperial products here) after either SS tumbling or regular corncob cleaning process.

I think that experimenting to find what works for you is the ticket. Some swear by neck expansion, a friend of mine found it had negative effect. I found no difference whatsoever with dry or wet neck lubes, yet others use a neck lube religiously.

I am getting excellent results in 3 rifles for F class shooting using a very basic case prep concentrating on consistent trim length, powder loads, and seating depth. The main thing is developing a loading routine you have confidence in
