Seeing my heart beat move criss hairs .... question.....

Grab a sling and shooting coat. Practice with them for a few months and the slight pulse you are seeing won't seem as pronounced. Its all relative.

Probably, not the help you were looking for.

Will shooting sling or coat will not work for me. 3 bad shoulder operations and 2 knees replaced. Bench and truck windows ( have permit to hunt out of truck ) is about it for me. But thanks for the tip. Marty.

Everything said so far is pretty much dead on.
From my High Power XTC days, some things still apply: Control your breathing and get some Zen going to slow down your heart, then shoot between the heart beats.
Possibly the best riflemen around were those in the Olympics who combined cross-country skiing and rifle shooting.
At my age and after 3 heart attacks, with the sack full of drugs I take, if I slow down my heart, I end up taking a nap.

It's the combination of pulse beat and nonrepeatable position variables that sling shooters in prone without artificial support win matches when their rifle and ammo bench tested 1/2 to 2/3 MOA at 1000 yards then keep all 20 record shots inside 1-1/2 MOA centered on target scoring 200-14X.

A pulse beat moving the point of aim 1/3 to 2/3 MOA plus LOS moving the same amount during bullet's barrel time plus the test group size are the issues. Sometimes they cancel each other out and set a record, or nearly so. Other times they add up in one direction and miss the 10 ring by 1/100th inch or more.

Then the variable cross winds come along......

Yes all good advice here! As one poster mentioned ...shoot between heart beats. Depending on the rifle
that is something I have done and still do but I find that when touching only the trigger and let the rifle free
recoil will help my groups...but some rifles ya just have to time it right. As said all good advice here. ;):)

Then hope that sudden muscular reaction doesn't compound the issue.

I'm a believer that the LOS is least disturbed when the shot is a complete surprise. Especially when trigger pull weight and backlash increases. That "now" thought when all appears still sends a ripple through the muscle control system that moves the rifle. The LOS moves with it.

The bullet's well out of the barrel by the time you hear the report then react to it and call the shot.

That's the biathlon that originally was shot at 300 metres with centerfire rifles.

The biathlon target range shooting distance today is 50 meters (160 ft) with 22 rimfire stuff. The target diameter is 45 millimetres (1.8 in) when shooting from prone; when shooting in the standing position, the target diameter is 115 millimetres (4.5 in).

3 position (standing, kneeling and prone) international rimfire shooters target 10 ring at 50 meters is 10.1mm (.41 in.).

If you have a good front rest and rear bag, and your contact with the rifle is correct, you will not have a pulse problem. Typically I shoot a 36X scope. There are rules as to how one contacts a rifle when shooting from bags. If you do not figure them out, your results will suffer. Just because you have shot for many years does not mean that you have this figured out. The toughest people to teach anything about how to shoot from bags are those that believe that the already know how to shoot and for that reason do not need to pay much attention to what anyone tells them that is different from what they have been doing. For those that do not know, not all successful benchrest shooters shoot free recoil. Do you really think that they could win with their cross hairs jumping from pulse? Mirage yes, pulse no.

I wish some of the fellow shooters I shoot with would have took a video of me shooting 1000yd benchrest you wouldn't even be worried about gun control LOL.
Well maybe we can just move back and forth in front of our monitors and pretend;-)

I've removed the front and rear sight from a Garand then taped a 6X 3/4" diameter scope sight in place as low as possible. Then got new shooters slung up in position to see more easily the size of their aiming area.

With instructions to adjust their hold and body position to reduce their holding area, their scores improved. That's the only way they can see the difference between good steady and poor wobbly positions. Then they learn how to go into it right the first time. Once mastered, then issue them ammo.

This is all good stuff...even the zombie thing. When I shot competition Small Bore stuff in High School, we learned to shoot through the 'X' when offhand. I had never heard of it or seen it until it was explained to us. Then it was like wow, there it is. Practice every day and you can adjust trigger control for it etc. On the rest/bag I still see it like the OP when I get my face on the stock too hard. Proper hold and technique will help for sure. Or as we used to say...'listen to your DI and stay in the game'.

After years of three position, i learned a lot about limiting driver input. At the bench my single worst enemy was firm chest contact with the bench, it caused this white boy to have some serious rhythm.

Good news, it was easily corrected.

At the US Olympic Training Center's air gun range, the coaches would affix laser pointers to air rifles so they could see exactly where they were aimed. It was easy to see when a pellet was fired how much the aim point was moving.
