New brass question

I recently started shooting 600yd BR matches. I bought a used Hall 6BRX and got quite a few cases with the rifle. They were all in decent shape and have produced some pretty good groups the best being a 1.27 last Saturday at Piedmont. What tips do you "Senior" members have for a "Newbie" to break in some new brass. I keep hearing about neck thickness, trim to length, primer pockets, run out, measuring for concentricity, etc. What's the basic procedure you use to produce your best results? I'm loading on a RCBS press with Redding dies, double weighing the powder and checking OAL. Lapua brass, CCI BR primers, Varget and Berger 108 BT's. Thanks in advance !

My advice to you would be to keep shooting the brass you got with the gun. By the way your rig is grouping, whoever fixed the brass knew what he was doing.

I used to shoot a BRX for years and had success with it in a couple of different guns. If you take care of your brass it will it will outlast the barrel. Don’t oversized the brass, and try to find a load that is under maximum.

Good luck at Piedmont. The competition is tough down there. Talk to the shooters and ask questions. Most all of them will share their knowledge with you.

I posted the questions due to some of the primer pockets beginning to get loose. I'm not running a hot load but my fear is repeated firings will take their toll on the brass I have and I am going to need some tools to work the new brass into shape.

All the folks at Piedmont have been super nice ! Good group of folks there and they can shoot !

We would need to know more about your chamber before answering. Can you measure the neck over a loaded bullet? Does your barrel have the neck dia engraved on it?

It does not have the diameter engraved on the barrel. I’ll measure a round this afternoon and post the measurements

I suggest you inquire to the original owner, who made/prepped the cases and mimic there steps.
Good Luck

One option you have is to get "DJ's Brass" to hydroform new BRX brass for you. You can send him a piece of your fired brass and he can duplicate it exactly. Checkout his website for services and prices. His brass is capable of winning matches on the first firing without the cost and barrel wear associated with prepping and fire forming your own. His work is well known by some of the better shooters on this site.

If the barrel is not marked I'm thinking.272 no turn neck perhaps a fired case would present more information.
Edit - not a senior member here but my $.02

I have already sent him a hundred and have received them last week. I thought the time involved and the waste of good bullets was too much !

I appreciate the input whether you are a senior member or not. There are so many different theories it's tough to digest the best route to try and improve on the process I am doing now.
